They will tow it back to port, salvage all the microchips they can, then scrap the rest.

I heard a rumor that a Porsche dealership is going to open in our little town - first one ever.

"Discount Porsches, as is, no warranty. Free air freshener with purchase. Bring trailer."

From the article:

Cabeças previously said that "everything was on fire about five meters above the water line" and the blaze was still far from the ship's fuel tanks. It is getting closer, he said.

Makes me wonder when it’ll be pointless to even have it towed with the risk above?

Guard your Honda Elements, Toyota Prius' and Ford F250's/F350's. Those are highly targeted vehicles in my patrol area. If you hear the roar of a Sawzall, you better beat feet towards your vehicle.

It's rampant here in Seattle. 3-man crews with 1 behind the wheel, 1 doing the sawing, and 1 standing watch with a gun. Multiple vehicle owners have been forced to stand there and watch while their catalytic converters are cut off in front of their eyes, while a 2nd crook points a gun at them. Being that this is Seattle you cant use deadly force to protect private property. In fact, the only legal action you can take is to offer the crooks a nice latte and some encouragement.

It angers me so much how these liberal cities allow crime to run rampant and don't prosecute. Sometimes I find it pointless to work in law enforcement. Morale is way down. If it weren't for the pay and retirement, I would've already quit.

Me too. And I count myself amongst the Liberals when it comes to most social and economic issues. But theres a difference between treating people humanely and flat out enabling them. I feel awful for our men and women in uniform in this city who I know are trying their best to do their jobs well but lack the support of the city and the community. It sucks, and the results of how we treat our officers are clear in the attrition rate.

Anyway, dont mean to derail the thread on a rant. Thanks for all that you do for your community Sedan_Clan. Please know that the vast majority of citizens appreciate and support the work you and your fellow officers do. Even if it doesn't always feel like it.

IF it was a EV/battery fire, a normal AFFF fire suppression system would not have helped much. Battery fires don't go out like normal fires from gas or similar volatile liquid. This can happen to any EV, so I hope adjustments are made to prevent this from reoccurring.

You don't need to ask. Just look at the user's visitor messages for anyone posting gibberish to see if they're on my spam radar and I've tagged them. (Alan Turing FTW!)

In this case, there are already two SEO link posts in the user's history...one for Canadian storage units when the user allegedly lives in Texas. I hit the triangle on him, but the mods haven't done anything yet. Wait for the bot to come back and edit that post to add an SEO link.....

"«The fire has subsided in recent hours,» João Mendes Cabeças, captain of the nearest port in the Azorean island of Faial said, per Reuters, adding that there was «little material left to burn».":
https://www.carscoops.com/2022/02/fi...cars-affected/

"Electric Vehicles and Maritime Transportation – Fire Hazards Identified":
https://gcaptain.com/electric-vehicl...ds-identified/

"Stuck at sea: The latest on the burning car carrier that never made it to RI"
https://eu.providencejournal.com/sto...nd/6860627001/

If could be established that an EV car battery caused the fire catastrophy (complicated to prove), the manufacturer and its insurer risk to face massive claims in damages (destruction of thousands of cars and claims by the ship owner for (irreparable?) damage to the ship, loss of profits, salvage costs, etc.). A nightmare.

Cost of installing those in every container probably outweighs the return. Cheaper to pay for a huge loss once in a while than to put fire suppression in shitloads of containers and then continue to inspect and test each of those systems on a regular basis.

Also most gas stations don't have fire suppression

Ship sank. So much for seeing pics but initial reports from last week said that the electric car batteries were the cause but now it’ll be impossible who’s to blame exactly. I would love to be a fly on the wall listening to the ongoing debating.
