Driving a rental car that's likely been beat to hell within its short life isn't the best way to evaluate a car.

I just picked up a '19 Bullitt and in my opinion its an excellent car with far more bandwidth than I expected. I had a 2013 Boss 302 and this car can likely hang with one on at the track while being infinitely more comfortable on the street. The Magnaride suspension and active exhaust have much to do with this. The Coyote doesn't have the low-end torque of a LT1 or 6.4 Hemi, but it moves out when prodded. There aren't many mass production V8's that will spin to 7000+rpm being made these days, take what you can get.

The Mustang definitely isn't the dynamic equal of the Camaro(not counting the GT350/500, I've driven the SS 1LE at a trackday and it was extremely impressive) and its not as spacious or comfortable as the Challenger. It resides right in the middle, which is why its still around for 2024.

I'll never understand criticism of a V8 that likes a few revs and has proven to be reliable. Torque is for the elderly.

The criticism isn’t necessary specifically that V8, its ford in general for never boring over 2.0 and never adding low end torque. Nothing wrong with OHV at all, but ford refused to bore over 2 and provide flow for low end torque.

Can't have everything. Ford, like GM, pretty much has locked the engine dimensions for the the past 3 decades. Not much room beyond 5.0L. The 5.2L's are at pretty much at the limit. Going back to the crazy undersquare dimensions of the 5.4/5.8 weren't going to happen.

I've driven cars with the GenV LT1/2/4. Great engines but I think the Coyote and its variants stand up just fine.

I came really close on pulling the trigger on a Bullitt in early 2019. It was a blast to drive and the sound was great. I chose to make the transition to BMW instead.

Right out of college I traded my beat up 323i for an '05 Mustang GT. Once the excitement of owning a "muscle car" wore off, I realized.....this car just isn't that fast. And of course it didn't really handle either. I enjoyed owning the car and the vast aftermarket that was available, but it's what ultimately led me back to BMW.

I've driven a newer GT500 and it was pretty impressive. Comfortable enough to daily and a beast when you want it.
I wouldn't trade my Cayman for one.... But they are very nice cars on the street and track.
