I forgot about one - the lung surgeries were due to a collapsed lung (which oddly enough didn't hurt but was told that it would). They tried to reinflate using a hollow needle inserted into my back, through my lats. That hurt like a motherfucker as I could feel it touching my lungs when I breathed.

I was on border duty in Germany back in the 80's. I was leading a reaction force (affectionately known as Rat F**k) mission when one of my PC drivers suddenly passed out cold right after vomiting violently. Turns out it was a kidney stone. So yeah, I can believe that those things must be painful as hell.

Mine was a broken right arm. I'd cracked my upper right arm (humerous) playing football. It was sore but I didn't think to go to the doctor. That wasn't the painful part.
A week or so later I was playing volleyball. I was serving the ball and heard a snap. The doctor said the torque from the volleyball serve coupled with the previous football injury is what caused the break. My friends tell me they heard it from across the field. My arm had broken right where the nerves are located on the inside of the arm. Luckily, it wasn't a compound fracture. The painful part was the ride to the hospital. Every single bump was horrible. I've had a few broken bones since then, but I never felt pain like that again thank goodness. |

I just woke up from a panic attack when I realized that the December McRib promotion will be ending soon and I didn't have a second one yet! Does that count?????

Large, infected, painful abcess was lanced and then periodically had to have fresh gauze stuffed about 1.5 inches down the slit in my flesh so that it kept draining.

The best thing about the worst pain seems to mainly be the meds you're (more) likely to be prescribed. I once fell off my bike and grazed my knee to the bone, broke and dislocated my wrist, grazes on my face, stitches in my head (yeah, I was that dumb), gravel in my palm, etc. The solution was morphine though. Absolutely no wonder people find that stuff rather more-ish. Went from world of pain to blissful peace in a matter of seconds.

Epididymitis. Feels like continuously being kicked in the balls.

Pancreatitis caused by gallbladder trying to kill it with stones. Was certain I was going to die from my whole torso being set on fire. Not recommended at all.
The only reason I went to the hospital was because I wasn’t dying soon enough.

I was not a fan of the needle blast of anesthesia to each testicle during my vasectomy.

It looks like kidney stone is the leader on this list. And yes, I had one. I would rank it #2 on my list. The first place goes to appendicectomy under local anesthesia. Still remember the click of the scissors and that pain gone the same moment. My case was complicated: they found it fused to the spine and in early stage of gangrene. I can't remember that I was screaming, but my mom told she could hear me from the outside of the hospital building.
And the third place goes to the broken vertebrae and a couple of cracks in the spine after ski accident. I walked it off with some ibuprofen. |

Torn achilles...even worse, when I woke up from surgery, they had done a nerve block behind my knee when I was out and so did not use local anesthetic. Well, the nerve block did not work so when I woke up I was in severe agony. At first, they didn't believe me but my wife was there and told them look, he has a very high pain tolerance and if he says he's in pain, he means it! They did the block again which took, and immediate relief followed. That was the worst pain ever and the best feeling ever (instant pain relief).

Totally forgot about the time in which a L4-L5 herniated disc made it impossible to walk, live and hardly sleep. Guess that's where the term "pain in the a...s" comes from?.

I think the feeling of being continually kicked in the balls would make me want to die quickly too.
Man, everything in this thread sounds horrible. I don’t even want to click “like” on any because I don’t want anybody to think I’m enjoying their pain! My sympathies to all sharing here!
