It's a great car by any standards, and it definitely holds its own compared to the M3.

What I like about it:
-The seats
-The not-so-subtle looks (fitting for a not-so-old-persony car)
-The barking, rumbling exhaust
-Crackling throttle-blipped downshifts
-Crisp, direct steering
-Body roll is kept in check pretty well, and the ride isn't harsh to me (definitely not like how some editors write it off as)
-COMAND system is nice. Better than the outgoing iDrive, but not as good as iDrive 2.0 imo
-On demand oversteer

What I don't like about it:
-The transmission is a two-sided story...it rips off upshifts with serious amounts of ferocity, and the downshifts are intoxicating, but the lag kills a lot of the fun. It's pull-pause-bam unless you're going WOT. You can't stack commands, so you can't jump gears or go to the highest gear. You can jump to the lowest by holding the left paddle though.
-The sound system is lacking, even in comparison to the "lowly" non-M e9X's. No EQ settings, NO BASS (btw I'm not a bass junkie).
-Traction control is bothersome. Yes, you can step it down, but it still intervenes a little too frequently, even in a straight line. Maybe the lack of an LSD (which comes with the PP package) can account for some of this.
-The only fault I can find with the interior is the large slab of hard-touch plastic that serves as the overall base for the IP.
-iPod interface is extremely lacking. You plug it into a cord inside the glove box, and you don't get any sort of screen interface. You have to choose a playlist/artist then navigate that one exclusive list using the steering wheel inputs and the instrument menu inside the speedo.
-Brakes are firm and linear, but the braking performance itself isn't the greatest.
Thanks for the review, I will have to go sit in the car this week and see how I fair with it. Never sat in the car or really thought of it to much (I wanted a 6MT) but I watched the Top Gear episode where they test the big three and Jezzas personality somewhat mirrors mine .

Let us know what you decide. G/L.
Well I have never owned a 335 (have an e90 330xi) (nor have I ever driven one actually). But I figured with the 335 I could always make it quicker if I deemed necessary also the stealers seem to be working a bit with the numbers of these cars. The M3 seemed like a logical step over from the S5, but again its expensive and thirsty (im used to it)

One other thing is the Cayenne GTS, if I can find a nice leftover 09 at the end of the year it couldn't hurt wheeling and dealing for one of those, anyone have some experience?

Thanks for the insight everyone, I may go drive a few of these this weekend once I officially rid myself of the Audi, we will see how that pans out.

skip the m3. You already have an E90. Go for the C63

Unless the RS5 is going to be using forced induction, it would be a complete waste since they are using the same 4.2 from the RS4 with a 30hp increase and a bigger pricetag.

Hey OP, congrats on getting the "lemon law" into act. I know it wasted alot of time and money but in the end you got your total car value right??

Anyway, I would have recommended a S4 or a S5 with the new Supercharged V6. But I dont think you will be going to Audi anytime soon

And like many, I would recommend a C63 AMG because that car is just awesome

And about the Cayenne GTS, I dont think you should go with another car that has a dodgy history. According to JD ratings, it has improved alot but you never know

Anyway, good luck with your next car

Don't go the Cayenne. We have a Cayenne Turbo. While it's nice, it gets terrible gas mileage and a car would be much more fun that it. I know the GTS is different, but I would not purchase another Cayenne. My vote goes for the C-63, it just seems so mean.

Oh, and tires wear's a bitch for the C63. Don't expect the rears to last anymore than 10k.

No C63 amg. You cant get a stick. I would go M3 or 335i Msort. The most important thing is to get a 6 speed manual as you will love it. DCT M3 is nice but I still like the 6 speed. In the M5/M6 its a touch choice between SMG and stick IMO.
How about the new Z4 sdrive 35i. I sell BMW as you know and i am so impressed by how the car looks and drives. You should check it out.

i don't know bmw seems to plain compare to his old S5 i think he would want something that is exciting right out of the factory, with the 335 you would have to mod it to make it exciting as compare to the C63 which is a beast right out of the factory just my .02 though.

First thank you everyone for advice!

I saw a bunch of M3s today and while I love the look, the interior has me bored its very similar to my 330 although I hear the materials are much better, I will have to go have a look anyway!

So the NEW updated list.

M3
335 MSport
C63
S4 - Engine sounds like a Porsche
S5(Another its just to nice to keep off the list)

I think I need to get some photos together and talk it out with you boys, not many people can take my car chat!

If it were my money, I'd be buying a lightly used M3.

Did you get to drive an S4 yet?

I did and I can honestly say that after also owning an S5 it is in a different league. I don't know when the S5 will gain the engine, diff and DSG but if it's as good as the S4 and had to been available then I might not have shifted to the M3 good as it is.

I felt that with normal driving and road limations the S4 got remarkably close to matching the M3's cornering speeds in the dry and would have destroyed in the wet.

I'm definitely looking forward to driving the RS5 this winter to see if it will be replacing the M3 next.

Don't know about you guys but if all goes well, my current plan is to be in another 335i (I have a 2010 E92 335i on "pre-order") for 3 years and then scoop up a low-mileage (and NOT beat on) 2010 or 2011 Nissan GT-R Premium (hopefully for ~ $60k)!!!!!!!!

I could care less if I go back to driving a "Nissan." It's a GT-R supercar for goodness sake that blows just about everything else away. I love my Bimmer, but the badge doesn't matter to me at this point. My brother just bought a brand new 2010 GT-R Premium...sik, sik, sik car!!!!!!!
