now to the OP's original question (i went to b school at Cornell after working as an engineer for 4 years), for business undergrad, i would recommend:
-wharton (duh)--they also have an MnT program, where in 5 years you get a business degree from wharton AND an engineering degree
-chicago (not sure if they have a business undergrad major, but can't go wrong w/ an econ major there)
-haas (berkeley)
-stanford GSB (as an undergrad, you should be able to take some classes there, but not sure)

for business, as others of stated, the material isnt rocket science, but what you want access to is the alumni network--i got all of my post MBA jobs via my alumni network

i'm not sure why USC Marshall is considered a top school (have not had good experiences recruiting from there when i was a management consultant)

OP - as several others have mentioned it is best to not stress undergrad so much. Attend a good school, make good grades, do well on the GMAT and try to get into a top 5 maybe top 10 MBA program. So simple right? Oh and check out Duke, Tulane, UT Austin, or UPenn for udergrad with strong business programs

In my opinion the importance for getting into a top b-school is as follows:
1. Work Experience with Fortune 100 company
2. High GMAT score
3. High GPA
4. Undergrad from good school, doesnt need to be top 5.

Undergrad is basically a given. Everyone has a undergrad degree these days. If you have a low GPA, it will be hard to even get into the workforce with a fortune 500 company, let alone get into b-school.

Next...study a couple of months and take the GMAT. The test is not hard...just make sure you study and are comfortable with the format.

Land a good job with a top company...regardless of what you do there...the company's name/brand will be associated with you. People will look at your resume and see the company name, not necessarily the type of work you perform. For instance, you may be a entry level engineer at Google. People will presume you are great even if you just update some database that doesn't require any sort of technical skills. Regardless, you work at Google and will be ahead of some real SW programmer who codes real stuff at a no-name company.

Check out George Washington. Great campus, literally 10 minute walk from the White House, and the Business School is up there with the best of them. It's very expensive, though: you're looking at upwards of 45K per year.

USC
UC Berkeley
University of Chicago
Cornell
Lehigh

BUT I would not recommend getting a undergraduate business degree. If you want a business degree, just get an MBA.

Since the OP is from SoCal...i would say UCLA or USC. just stay local because many of your collagues will be able to get you jobs in your local area.

Use the undergrad as a platform for getting your MS or MBA. It will also help you get a decent job out of school where your new employer could pay for your grad school. Well at least that was the route I took to get my MBA.

I have MBA yet my undergrad was Electrical Engineering. I worked in engineering while I studied for my MS in Engineering. The job experience probably helped in my admission to B-school. All my degrees came from Top 25 schools but unfortunately none are Top 5.

If you can get into Top 5 B-school...you must be doing things right. Being on this forum is not the route to MIT or Harvard.

if you go to NYU stern or a top undergrad business school you don't need an MBA. If OP had the grades he would know or at least his guidance counselor would have told him by now. OP will be @ cc when he graduates...

I dont get the intent of what you are saying. Even if you go to a top school or a no-name school, you don't needs an MBA. Thanks for pointing that out. what are you trying to say about his with the grades and guidance counselor. I am confused.

Thanks for the info! This may seem like a dumb question, (although the only dumb questions are the ones not asked ), but wouldn't i need to get my bachelors before getting my MBA? how soon would I be able to get an MBA?

Hahaha. Yes. You need a B.A. or B.S. as a prerequisite for application to an M.B.A. program.

Not a dumb question at all.

Most top MBA schools only require bachelors and GMAT score. So you could essentialy apply for MBA school straight from undergrad.

But at least in my class the average age for the incoming class is about 30-33yrs old. Thus most of the students already had previous job experience or were currently employed by top companies. Most don't just work at some nonsense job. Think about it..if you have the qualifications to get accepted to top 5 B-school...you aren't just scoring well on GMAT.

I was just about the youngest in my graduating class. But even I had two fortune 100 companies on my resume as well as 2 internships.

The resume for most of the students already included multiple jobs so when they did graduate they used their already high salary as negotiating leverage for their next job. When most people think of MBA grads, they assume that once you graduate from Top 5 B-school, you are guaranteed a high salary. In fact, this is a fairly true statement. They do get compensated generously once they graduate, however what is not told is that the students accepted into these programs are already high earners before starting their MBA education. Thus its a little misleading for a fresh undergraduate to apply for MBA school and graduate at 25 yrs old and obtain a 130k job.

However its not unlikely for a 35yr MBA graduate to obtain the 130k job after graduating from Stanford with 10+ yrs of work experience, B.S. degree, MBA degree, internships, and the broad network of friends that have ties to many managerial positions within the top companies.

lol, I will be applying as well this year, definately i want to be a business major. usc with a 3.7 weighted...idk im in the same spot...taken all ap and honor classes, but i have also founded the business club at my school and been president for 2 years, and have an internship and extra curriculars. so idk im hoping for usc but might be too expensive for undergrad but i would definately want to go to marshall! amazing network of alumni's there. i have a interview with their undergrad admissions on september 28

You should forget about the undergraduate business degree, and instead plan on an MBA. I know lots of people with international business degrees that have jobs completely unrelated to their degree. If you are serious about a business degree, you need an MBA.

As for an undergraduate school, pick a school that has a decent sports program. If you pick a school like UC Davis, you will not have much fun during those 4 years (and following this logic, you can pretty much ignore all of the Big 10 schools ). If you are in SoCal I'd try UCLA or USC, but don't be afraid to go out-of-state. I paid nonresident tuition for my 1st year of law school at Florida, but was a resident for my 2nd & 3rd years....and as a result, my total tuition was less that what I would have paid for a public school in California.

All great schools...however if you don't have a 3.0 or higer, finding a good job right out of college will be hard.

FYI...I did not go to a school known for business...its actually a great Art & Medical school, however if you have a 3.0 or better you have a much higher chance at a landing a good job compared to someone who went to one of the schools above and got a 2.5 GPA.
