Theres also no chance that the z8 is the rarest BMW of all time. Heres a picture of my fathers from about 8 years ago when i was young. |

that is not a Z8. thats an alpina roadster. i wouldn't say its the rarest, but with only 555 models made its definitely up there with the 2002 turbo, M1, 3.0 CSL and of course the 507 which this is a reincarnation of. in my eye this is one of the most beautiful car ever designed. because of there exclusivity, Z8s (alpinas included) hold there value better than most ferraris and lombos.

I hate to say it but there are 3 of those "rare" BMWs in my community Beautiful car but they have serious problems with the subframes.

The Alpina version doesn't have the S62 engine & is an automatic
Alpina turned it into a cruiser, as they didn't do anything to improve the handling, took the S62 heart out, and also made it a slush box. Equals pretty cruiser. While the real Z8s with the S62 aren't as rare I love them more. There is a Top Gear review of the Alpina from around 2002, that might be on youtube. Clarkson didn't like either version of the car.

As for rare, the S54 powered Z3 M Coupe is nearly as rare, as is the Z4 M Coupe, and I believe the non-M versions of both coupes are actually more rare. |

Alpina turned it into a cruiser because it didn't make a good sports car in the first place. If I remember correctly, in C&D they basically tore it apart compared to the Ferrari 360 Modena just because the Z8 wasn't sure "what it wanted to be".
That being said... its one of my favorite designs of all time. There used to be about 4-5 in my neighborhood but I'm guessing they were sold since I havent seen them in a while. |

how could you not believe that?? i'd take a carrera gt over a alpina z8 any day of the week... the alpina z8 is special but it is NOTHING like a carrera gt... IMO that's like comparing an m3 to a porsche gt3 rs.. or maybe even a m3 to a ferrari f430...

I have a soft spot for the Z8 (and nothing but ill-feelings about Alpina's rape of the car). I see them from time to time and every single time I shout "DO WANT!" I don't care how it drives. I'm not going to track one so if it gets me to work I'll be happy. One of my all-time favorite car designs.
