It isn't really a garbage car. Just a garbage gearbox.

that makes sense. this just proves my point that this car is tricky to launch and the 4.2s time is due to that autobild didn't use the technique described here.

anyway, I have to say lexus made the wrong choice not to include launch control here. even the e46 m3 smg has one.

So you reckon that this is a good technique to practice?

Personally I think long term the clutch will die. What Autocar do is test the car properly without either overstepping the reliability of the car or massaging the figures with better than normal surface conditions.

well any clutch will die if you launch them continuously and that include any cars. rev to 4000rpm and drop the clutch doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary when launching a to me. isn't the e46 smg euro version rev even higher than that in launch mode?

the lfa didn't come with launch control, so proper launch technique to achieve manufacturer quote time is required. did they use launch control in the other three cars or were they just basically smash the pedal to achieve those times?

Guys, did you even read what marked in Bold for the motortrend article?
Here's it again.

At this point, our boy Bill suggests we try some illicit activity with his LFA. "Put it in neutral, rev to 4000 rpm, and then grab the + paddle for first gear," he says.
Wtf were they thinking? They put it in Neutral, step on the throttle and then select 1st gear...that would do some serious damage to the transmission. Best story wasn't this, the lexus LFA engineer gave the greenlight to do so as it was a pre production model.

And BTW, that's how they got their fast time

Graider man, I like the LFA, I really do but there are so many things that could have been better on that car for the price tag it has

i agree with you about it should perform better for the price. i was just trying to point out that the 4.2s time sound kinda suspcious given the power/weight it has should put it right in the 3.7s mark .hehe

but absolutely they could have done so much better with it.

THe LFA just needs a dual clutch tranny. Period. It is a victim of its absurdly long gestation period....
