This project will compete with Porsche 918 (M-version) and something else which players will push out before 2015. Don't think any currently existing car in the same class or even close.

one thing for sure is that this supercar will have the meanest looking front end IMO of any exotic competition out there!

I'm sure BMW is now on the right track. M100, M1 or whatever will be the milestone in supercar history. Please note that decision to concentrate lightweight eco-performance is several years old - competitors like Mercedes and Audi have to hurry a lot in order to catch BMW.

it might have a lighter chassis, rendering the car more lighter, more nimble, agile, and more faster. Beside, it might have some advanced BS technology.

I was super excited until I found out this was going to be some kind of exotic. This aught to be the next 1-series instead. Who care if a $200k car gets 58 mpg?
Could you imagine if they could get something that looks like this, performance 80% as well, for 1-series pricing!? BMW would dominate. |

For all the news about front wheel drive, small cars, and multiple cross-over type vehicles they have spent money on designing, this is the one car that reminds you of the old BMW with its focus on performance.....makes me forget about the rest, and fall in love with BMW all over again. To be honest, the non-//M version looks sick, as its reported to be wicked fast with 0-60 in the 4s and still getting sick gas mileage. NICE.
SOUTH: awesome thread my man, awesome thread..... Cheers, Mark

You have heard of power to weight right...? I wouldn't mind a car with 450 hp and weighs in under 2700 pounds and amazing handling! Plus... it looks sexy as all hell!!!

scott and south, i have a question.
is bmw m capable of building a car that can go toe to toe with car like gt3 rs or 430 scud? it seems like they avoid this market completely and instead focus on x6m, x5m, x3m, x1m, etc..... often time the m3 is being pit against porsche as evident in many online forums simply because bmw just doesn't have any faster car, so i think having a gt3 rs competitor would definitely bring more enthusiasts and recognition to bmw. it really doesn't need to be anything fancy. even a complete stripped out e92 m3 gtr at 3000lbs and 500hp v8 would make the fan real happy. its a very exciting time for BMW, i am really looking forward to learning more about this project. I really am shocked that there hasn't been more undercover spy shots. BMW is doing a great job of keeping this car under wraps.

Yes. BMW are capable of doing something that competes with these cars
Do they want to? of course it is always in debate and discussion. Will they do it? No because when brought into the real world there is no serious demand for such a car , but there is demand for a 1M coupe - a more affordable Performance concept. And for a small company like BMW , who very much like to hold on to their independence they dont have the vast resources and parts bin as VAG. Focus for BMW AG is currently in the real world When I am asked when will we see the R8 Competitor etc And I always say never, why? because if they remotely understand anything about BMW then they will know BMW is more innovator than immitator. BMW's stand out because that is their primary principle "The Ultimate Driving Machine" BMW is about the philosophy behind the product. No matter how a competitor tries it still does not match up to a BMW. I recently drove the Lexus CT sporthatch which promised class leading dynamics and agile handling? It was archaic , lifeless and uninspiring - The 1er Sporthatch which is coming to seven years old and replacment is more responsive it is car that does not betray it's intentions. Vision Efficient Dynamics is pure BMW right down to the "Ultimate Driving Machine" philosophy only now the car thinks ahead to the eventual change of conventional mobility. Vision Efficient Dynamics is the first step into the future and it is BMW who are leading in this area. Vision Efficient Dynamics is a look into a crystal ball when such sports car competitors are being forced off the roads due to future legislation. BMW wants to remain on the road whilst it's competitors will be forced off. Besides why cant engineering of such magnitude normally reserved for a Super Sports or Hyper car not be applied to something less exotic and be able to find a customer base in the "real world"? That is where the MegaCity Vehicle comes in because it comes from the same school of thought behind the Vision Efficient Dynamics. |

Besides the typical BMW marketing bullshit, this car is gonna be sick. I love the concept. However it is very stupid when BMW tries to demean a car like the R8, admit that you got your ass whooped by a super expensive super-car that is selling like hot-cakes. It is true that this concept is probably going to be the future of super-cars and that BMW is leading the way, but what happened to living today? Where is the V12 gas guzzling BMW super-car of today? There's some senior executives that need to get laid today not in 2035!!!!
