If you guys didn't understand after seeing the trollface picture I posted, then I'll say that I only worded my post the way I did to fuck with you guys. I stand by the viewpoint of my post, though - they should keep their cars but go to jail.

Well, at least they didn't have their lives taken in an accident. But yeah...where's the due process?

Stupid law imo.
Also 200 km/h in a ferrari or m6 is nothing. I drive a stock 335i and I hit 200 km/h by accident sometimes from over taking a car while on the highway. |

Punishment is indeed in order, but relieving someone of their car seems a bit much. Gotta love big government! A-holes.

Are you kidding me? How do you not know you're going 120mph in a 60mph zone. If it were for the lack of attention to the speedometer, how dim witted does your sense of speed have to be not to realize how fast you're going.

But I do agree taking the cars away is a bit much. I thought in some cases dealing with street racing(in Canada), the police would impound the cars and crush them.

It will be interesting to see if this holds up in court. I doubt it will. The wealthy parents will step in with lawyer money, to protect their kids, if not their car investment.
They deserve a day or two in jail and a fine. |

Just to chimp in my opinion, the article stated they were speeding 200 km in a 60km/hr zone. Guess you guys are a little rusty on the conversion table lol. So...First, they were going +/-124 MPH in a +/-37MPH zone. that is a little bit over 3 time faster than the posted speed limit. Second, collision would be disastrous. Takes the much lighter Ferrari 430 S for example, 3100 pounds traveling at 125 miles per hour, the impact force would equal to about 810 tons = a ticket to hell. 1150 tons of impact forces for the M6 under similar math formula.
I think that the laws is fair. Why? For those of you who think is unfair....would you think is otherwise if those hikers were your parent, sibling, or love ones that were dead due to these two YOUNG IDIOT racing in a REAR WHEEL DRIVE cars WITH EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF HP up in the MOUNTAIN in the WINTER? Second, parents, they deserve to lose those car if they were belong to them and they allows their kid to drive it. It is like handing a gun to a kid and says, "go play with it, but be careful okay..." |

What a bunch of idiots!
Personally there's no need to lose the cars, these kids will ask their parents to buy them new cars next day. Jacking up insurance will not matter as the parents are rich. So they should have locked them, up to 1 year and take their drivers license away, say 3 years. They should set as an example for reckless drivers. I think lots of people have, BUT not a lot of people have done 3.5x the speed limit! Esp doing 200km/h on a 60km/h zone. So needless to say this was not done on the highway.

But while the government is selling off the valuable sports car under the province's civil forfeiture laws, the owner and the driver still stand to get back 80 per cent of the cash from the sale. |

Good way to raise funds if they are auctioning the cars instead of crushing, how ethical it is to make money off a law like that?
For first time offenders, a heavy fine and a license suspension of 6 months to a year seems reasonable and drives the point home.
