to add to what OP has posted. 75% drop out rate in the first 8 weeks of the year, additional 50% drop out rate in 6 months. gyms bank on this and know that many people sign up and drop out yet stay pay the fees because of the contract. these #s just amaze me... but hey if you cant handle it... and drop out... moar room at the gym for mee! as much as i love the gym, i advocate physical activity as a whole and not just lifting weights/cardio at the gym. whatever your passion is... cycling, running, walking, gardening, etc... do it. the benefits of physical activity are numerous and the effects are both immediate and long term.

We're not really banking on anything when it comes to dropouts. It just means we have to call them up, ask them why they decided to cancel, and see if they want to come back (only one out of every hundred will end up re-joining). We even typically offer former member deals that waive any enrollment/processing fees so it's like they're just paying their monthly rates again. I work at a gym where the rates go from 35-65 a month.

No, my bad actually I meant Lifetime fitness. Its a nice gym, just dont really like the atmosphere... there a little family owned gym right around the corner from my house that gave me a free membership since i only use it usually on fri/sat.
It's smaller, but has more wights that yoga rooms if you know what I mean. |
