I'd say "looks like it could possibly be loaded" but no way to tell for sure just from the pic.
Nor is Seattle or I. Most departments leave the chamber empty for safety reasons. You are unlikely to need to use your rifle inside your car, so chambers are loaded once the gun is deployed. It also depends why it was on the trunk in the first place. Was there a hot call? Was it just shift change? I agree that most people don't load squads with AR15s without magazines, and while that is technically "loaded," that term used in the media = "Ready to fire." Better news blip I suppose...

See above, and this. Getting a rifle out of a squad car is a bit of a trick, and many officers have had unpleasant experiences blowing holes in roofs or A-pillars when guns had rounds kept in chambers. A full mag in the chamber is a far safer alternative for deployment. In an emergency, a rifle is deployed at a distance(the whole point of a rifle) and therefore ther is more time to chamber around (Less than one second). Handguns are defensive/reactionary weapons in many cases and are secured in holsters. Many hours of practice drawing quickly and firing make loaded chambers on handguns a viable practice. Try that with a rifle or other long gun that barely fits in the car, has a sling and is generally a PITA to get out of the rack and you can begin to understand why many officers never bother to take the damn thing out of the car. The short answer is liability.

Collin, your meaningful contributions are in other areas and you are receiving a forgiveness today.

its an AR-15. Its an assault rifle utilized by US armed forces. Personally, I like the CAR-15, where the C stands for Carbine, which basically means a shorter barrel.... Its better for close quarters combat. I dont really see why a SPD cop would take an AR over the CAR. but meh, what do I know... I just play counterstrike and battlefield all day since birth ahahah

but thats an M60, a heavy machine gun. the closest relative to that is the M249-SAW (squad automatic weapon), which is more mobile than the M60 and would be my weapon of choice. Followed by the CAR-15. I think im going to play some medal of honor now! lol
