Gym with the girl has never worked for me...always inefficient, I just don't have the patience. Outdoor activities are fine...

Do you eat meals with her or live together? If so, cutting caloric intake is easier than burning excess calories (ie it's a lot more efficient to never consume it in the first place than it is to burn it off completely) - try cooking healthy for yourselves
