Pre-accounting class is boring and easy as hell. But wait until you take some federal tax acct class. Those could entertaints you for full quarter to do nothing but study.

Sure. I work for C students. Lol. Tell that to my summa cum laude (in 3 yrs) and top 1/4 of med school. And my bank account.

Get a professional degree. You'll have a career forever.

OP you need to work on yourself, because if you drop out now and try to make it on your own it'll be much harder than sitting in Comp101 driving an E93 335 on dads money. Real world (albeit I've only experienced some), is a lot harder than college, you just don't have anything to compare college to. A lot of freshmen have that view because they're ignorant to the world.
This is very true; even if you take a look at someone like Zuckerberg; he did drop out but let's remember he dropped out of Harvard which was already a sign of him being very intelligent.

I doubt that's an option for someone who is about thinking about dropping out their first year of college; professional school is only for the most motivated.

real talk for a second. maybe i was not the most motivated person when it came to education, but are you trying to say that im not motivated if i have not chased continuing education after undergrad, and not pursuing professional designations in my career? i personally dont care for going back to class for a CPCU designation, a CIC designation, an ARM, and the list can go on forever. its just some letters at the end of your name. sure, you stand out, but guess what- i can do the same thing a CPCU or a CIC or an ARM can.

That's right but the recruiters which are your inevitable barrier to entry, don't care that you can or cannot do what a CPCU, CIC or ARM can, only that you are in fact a CPCU, CIC or ARM...

The point I think that resonates here is that yes there are some folks that can do stuff and do make it big without credentials. However professionally it's always of the first questions that come up and always one that the most significant that initial perceptions are built on.

easy classes means you are an A+ student without trying
if getting Bs is difficult then perhaps you need to study

Math/logic fail. Stay in school.

Edit: A in in one class + C in another class = B average.

I guess I should have mentioned only top 6% are allowed to receive an A (4.0). 30% and up can receive a B (3.0). So the likelihood of receiving an A is even less plausible if im stressing over being in top third of class. Another thing I meant is that my GE's are easy because I study for them and its straight forward, and those are the classes people cheat in. Economics involves more work than the other classes in preparing for exams/work, but its worth it because I enjoy it unlike the GE's.

A no more than 6 percent of students
A- or above no more than 12 percent of students
B+ or above no more than 21 percent of students
B or above no more than 30 percent of students
B- or above no more than 39 percent of students
C+ or above no more than 50 percent of students

I really appreciate all the advice and constructive criticism so far. I suppose I should emphasize that I do not intend to drop out, and it has not been a serious option for me at any point in time so far. I didn't mean to convey that I was giving up on higher education. Rather, I wanted to see how others felt during this time in their life, and to see if im strange in disliking college thus far or if there are others who shared some of my sentiment. Also, part of me just wanted to vent about basically having to do something I strongly dislike in order to eventually get where I want, but I understand it is like that in life with anything...

At this point, im going to stick through the year here at UCSB and try my best in the 3 econ classes ill have this year to see if I can keep that 3.0. If it doesn't come through, I will likely transfer to a private school in fall 2012 or a CC in the hope of transferring to a different UC in Fall 2013. I do really enjoy economics , but I hate the fact I may be shunned from the major at this school if I dont beat my classmates. I understand the world is a competitive place, but this is a school and im paying to be here- so I expect to be able to takes the courses I desire.

i'm not too familiar with UCSB's econ major, but i had a friend do it. he transferred from university of illinois (double e for a year) to de anza cc (pre-reqs for econ major) and then went to UCSB for 3 years. i don't think he said it was that hard. to be honest, all those econ pre-req classes are pretty easy--i'm not sure if you've gotten there yet or not--it's the upper division that may be a little more challenging. lower divisions aren't meant to "weed" people out. many people take them for GEs or as a random requirement for a major. when i was taking lower div econ, only 35-40 people showed up to a 400-450 person class. i think the average was like a C, but it was pretty damn easy (i was a fourth year taking classes among probably first and second years who probably didn't give a rats ass about their gpas).

transferring to another UC is going to be hard...the statistics do not weigh in your favor.

Hold on ... your friend went from a top 5 EE program at U of I, to an economics program ranked #42?
No wonder your friend found UCSB easy.

Even if he stayed at U of I, he would have had a higher ranked graduate econ program (and a more pretigious university).

Yes that is correct, but transferring from CC on the other hand is much simpler. Like I said, if things do not work out at UCSB by end of this year, i'd just transfer to a Community college and then after a year there, transfer to another UC. The UC system gives first priority to CC students, and i've talked to more than enough people who have gone this route.
