+1 That was the point--you can make a lot of cars very fast with certain mods--we all know how good the Procede is--but that was not the topic in this thread.

I understand; just trying to show that AFAIK, a stock 335i (4.8-5.0 sec. 0-60mph & 13.4-13.6 sec. @ 105mph) should be just as fast as a stock Z4M (and a driver's race), and a PROcede 335i walks a stock Z4M (even one with an intake). No big deal, guys...geez.

The Z4M roadster should take the 335i by a bit stock for stock but won't smoke it. The M3 and the 335i are about as equal as it gets. The Z4M Coupe is like 200 lbs less than M3 and will pull on the 335i decently. The Z4M roadster is a bit heavier than the Coupe so I'd say it will creep away. But as speeds climb into triple digits the Z4M's will begin to pull away a bit quicker as the 335i's turbo's begin to lose their breath. |

Oh and evidence that the Z4M isn't really that much faster or handle that much better.
Look at Car and Driver's test of the cars at Virginia International Raceway last month. The BMW 335i Coupe beats the Z4M around the track. Again, that youtube video of the Z4M smoking the 335i is full of it. That Z4M couldn't be stock. That car is running away from the 335i. The Z4M will trap like 2 mph faster, not 10. I say that Z4M had gears and cams. |

I drove both the 335i sedan with Sport Package and the M Coupe at the BMW Driving School Perfection course. Both stock. The 335i was for practicing fine handling and the M Coupe for slalom and autocross. To me the M engine is more flexible and revs higher than the twin turbo, even though it has less torque (330HP @ 7900/ 262 lb-ft at 4900 versus 300HP at 5800 and 300 lb-ft @ 1400). That, together with lighter weight (1465kg vs 1620kg), a stiffer body and LSD, gives the M Coupe an edge over the 335i in a race course.

One of the guys I work with has one. Once it cools down in the fall we're gonna go to the drag strip. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's just a bit faster than the 335i.
Hopefully by then I won't have caved in and already bought a Procede! |

The M Coupe is a track car not a drag race car. In a drag strip even a blown Chevelle that will flip over in a corner can blow it away. It doesn't do justice for what it is designed for and meant for.

Z4M.
I drive my Z4M during the week, and the wife's 335i on the weekends. 335i is impressive...but not quite good enough.
