I had two STI's (04,05) before the 335 and I will say to run 11.7 you need a lot more than a MBC (did I say ALOT). BTW a manual boost control is the worst mod you can put in a Subaru just ask any real Subaru tuner. IF the Suby driver knows how to lauch and that almost never happens then yes it should run in front of the 335 from 0 to about 50.

edit 11.7 second STI the car was tuned with the following parts:
- Crucial downpipe and racepipe
- Crucial P&P&C OEM headers
- HKS Catback
- UR EWG UP with Tial 38mm
- APS turbo inlet
- APS 65mm CAI
- Hallman MBC
- Walbro fuel pump
- Deatchswerks 650cc injectors
- 1 Step colder plugs

The new STI's (07) are pretty stout with an exhaust and a tune. They've got a new turbo and some reworked heads from the 04 &05's I believe.

From a dead stop it should be close if he gives it the full on drag launch. Rolling on the highway (which I don't think is a good place to race BTW) you should pull him due to the lack of AWD launch advantage and the 335's better gearing and aero.

The 11.7 suby had a little more than I thought, I had stopped reading afer the "thats it thats all part", I unlike you still don't consider that to be ALOT of mods. I also think that you should add more than saying most real suby tuners frown away from mbcs, the facts are most subys sould be tuned for them to be safe, thay are a cheaper way to controle boost and from my personal xp more reliable than ebcs, most build boost very fast and can hold it rock steady. I would say that on an 02 suby you can safely slap on a boost controle without tuning, the open loop closed loop thing doesn't apply like other years. I do agree that most suby drivers will never get the best times out of their car, but good drivers are out there. From a roll I think the 335i torque will shine, but from a dig depending on driver suby does have a chance untill that new fourth gear runs dry.

07 STI gearing is a lot better than the previous three years, so the top end drop off won't be as bad. The place where it will start to fall out of favor for the Subaru- Well, lets just say you should know better than to go over 120mph on public streets.

I'm not saying you'll lose, but if he has any kind of tune with those exhaust mods you should be ready to accept it as a real possibility.

Yes for the 13 flat bone stock
No for the 11.7 with just TBE and MBC.

Wow. I'm amazed with the responses in this thread: cakewalk, piece of cake, easy... the 335 has superior top end, no doubt about it, but can any of you explain to me how can a low-mid 13-sec car like the 335 (stock) can easily blow the doors off of a low 13-sec car? Even from a dig?

Procede 335 vs. stock Evo. That's why you walked from them.

I hate to say it, because I had the Subie STi, but the Evo's are a better match for the 335 than STi's. However we are all getting off topic. 335iRCoupe, how did the race go between you and your brother?

go onto dragtimes, 07 sti's arent hitting low 13's as easy as u think.

ill put my money on the 335i with the turbo tuner.
I wasn't talking about this specific race between a tuned (TT) 335 and a STI with just catback. I was referring to the comments about stock 335s being faster than STIs.

In the right hands, the STi is a low 13's car. I've seen it at the track and also at several auto mags.

Anyways, my money is also with the TT 335. The STI needs more mods to be a contender.

Thanks for providing the link.. a few things though. The Stis are not known to go 11's with just a 3"TB and a MBC, the list is like:

- Crucial downpipe and racepipe
- Crucial P&P&C OEM headers
- HKS Catback
- UR EWG UP with Tial 38mm
- APS turbo inlet
- APS 65mm CAI
- Hallman MBC
- Walbro fuel pump
- Deatchswerks 650cc injectors
- 1 Step colder plugs

plus the extra power came from 100oct and last but not least the video shows a huge head wind, you can actually not just hear it but also watch the vegetation moving in the same direction of the car. This 11's sec thing is very very recent, not long ago.

Even though I no longer participate much on nasioc.com, I have been a member since Sep 03 and use to read there a lot when I had my modded WRX. I inisist that the 11's second pass was a isolated case and that there aren't many people running that quick with just a TB and a MBC.

Regardless of what I personally think I gibve a lot of credit to that dude that ran the 11.7 on that beautiful STI.

If the wind was at the cars tail or rear......that is called a tailwind. If the wind is at the cars head or front.....that is a headwind.

sorry my friend just told me to come on here. i put it on my other old fourms and i think on a sti forum. no videos it was too dark they came out shitty.
we raced twice. once from a stop and a roll.
i spanked him both time. from a stop we were even up to about 20mph and than i rocketed forward and walked him. BTW HE DIDNT LAUNCH. he felt racing me wasnt important and he didnt want to wear his tranny and clutch. he said he would have kept up to like 60mph if he had luanched hard.
the rolling 50mph race was another walk, he had no excuse.
my friend told me that his spt intake and catback exhaust is worth really no power at all. he needs a tune and a downpipe he said to keep up.
turbo tuner fwiw and 335i. sti

Thanks for the response, that is excatly what I was hoping, that you would win. Ironically I had a race from a roll against a friend of mine this morning.
His car is a 04 STI and he is putting 268whp/299lb/tq on a Mustang Dyno to all 4 whels with a full 3"TB, air filter and Cobb access port with custom tune(his car put down 228whp/238lbtq when stock).

Anyway, I already smoked him multiple times with my Evos and my Stealth R/T, he only smoked me once on my Golf VR6. Today I pull comfortably about 3 cars from 30-80mph then I let off the gas.

He ran a best of 13.6@101(once) at a local drag strip(SIR, Tucson), he typically runs 13.9@99-100. Anyway, sorry for going the side track.

stock 335 vs stock STI 335 will still win. especially at high speed, now 335 with tune that STi has no chance maybe from 0-60 just because of AWD launch advantage but thats it

People really over estimates the AWD, I see a lot of people asssuming that the AWD is superior, don't get me wrong, it is vastly superior when the driver masters the launch otherwise an AWD can/could be significantly slower due to bog down.

This is a issue that is often over seen but it is a huge issue for rockies driving AWD.

Until you actually master your own AWD car launching technique I wouldn't say that the AWD is superior. I have had 9 AWD cars (8 of them turbos) and I insist that you should never understimate a race agaisnt a AWD car, not many people know how to launch them.

As I said before, if an STi dare take you on from a rolling start you will with out a challenge. Mostly due to the poor top end of the STi.

It all depends on the STI mods.
