So then we should all be driving Toyobarus or Miatas is fun to drive is all that mattered.......
Just like the M3 drivers used to talk about all round versatility compared to Porsches, I find it funny that Porsche drivers talk about fun to drive compared to the GTR. Just my humble opinion

I like your red 991

We all would be saving a lot of money if we drove a toyobaru or miatas versus porsches, M3's or GT-Rs...

It's been widely touted as a more fun to drive car relative to a GTR. I don't get your post.

I think he's trying to argue that since they're roughly the same price and one puts up bigger numbers, the other is a weird choice. What seems to be missing is that if magazine numbers and track times are all that matter why didn't the OP and every GTR buyer get a KTM X Bow, a Radical, Ultima, Donkervoort or a V8 Atom?

I'd gladly have a 991 S over a GTR, OP made a great choice.

I think that is the standard 20" carrera S wheel that comes standard with 991 S. The platinum is much darker than that.

So far my experience with the 991 Carrera S is this car likes to be driven hard and almost seems anxious to wanna go. This is very true in sport plus mode. In sport mode it is more tame and willing to settle into higher gears for cruising and if that isnt tame enough you can turn sport mode off and then the car more civil.

The PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) sounds phenominal inside of the car while driving it produces a sensational howl while accelerating. The suspension is very nice and when in sport plus mode is not harsh at all though the car is very tight and well mannered in any chassis setting. The car really seems that it is set up perfect from the factory. Brakes look and feel great and i imagine that they will hold up better than the OEM M3 brakes in a track setting.

Overall the fit and finish is beautiful and the layout is very simple and easy to use in my opinion. Only had the car since Saturday and already have settled into it.

You are in for a treat when your car arrives. I had the oppurtunity to drive the C4S with the 7spd tranny.

This so true and one of the reasons iam in a 911 instead of the GTR.

Nice!
It's always to switch up brands once in awhile! The 911 ( like the M3) is iconic. Enjoy the ride!

I agree with most on here and am also moving on to a 991S. It's on a boat now and I should have it early March. Epic car. The wait is killing me.

I wanted a 991, but couldn't afford a new one so I settled for a 997.2 It's such a fantastic car, that I won't ever drive the 991 (because I'm afraid I might like it more).

I got mine because there are only handful of AWD super sports cars. Lambos, Audi R8, Veyron, GT-R, and 911. Of those, only the GT-R and 911 are within my range financially and I thought the 911 had a more "mature" look to it.

I drove (2) 996's before I bought my M Coupe. The first one I drove was an '06 carrera, black on black with nav, i think around 55k miles. It was pretty clear that one wasn't taken care of the best... Interior bits seemed they were very worn and falling apart.. Was also not as fast as I expected. While it wasn't slow, I still wasn't blown away. For the money you're paying for that car, seems like you could have the same performance for less money, or a newer car for the same money with the same performance. I think the primary reason people buy those is so they have a porsche, not because it's the "best buy"

I then drove a 01 911 turbo.. The only way I can describe that car is "uselessly fast".. It wasn't "smokey burnout" fast, as in it didn't have crazy amounts of torque like a big V8 does, but it was extremely fast and extremely smooth. The AWD makes so you have basically unlimited grip. I think that car does mid 12's in the 1/4 mile.. Anyway, it's so fast by the time you get into 3rd gear you're doing dang near 80MPH which what seemed like no time at all. I think if you really rowed through the gears in that car like you "should" or "want to", it'd probably only take one time being at the wrong place at the wrong time before you'd be in jail..

At the end of the day, the 996 was a no-go for me for (3) reasons.

1. I'm a little over 6' with long legs, and the leg room was simply not there for me. It was OK for the short drives I was on (less than 30 mins each), but I didn't feel like I could drive 2 hours in that car without being uncomfortable.

2. The regular 996 carrera didn't seem to have the performance for the money. Seems like you can get very comparable performance out of other cars for a heck of a lot less money and maintenance.

3. The 911 turbo is an amazing machine, I'd love to have one some day. I couldn't justify spending 10k more than my M coupe for a car that's 6 years older.. Even if you DIY, prices for 911 turbo parts are ridiculous..

I believe the M coupe is a touch faster than the 996 carrera, and a touch slower than the 911 turbo. Even if performance is equal in the 996 carrera, I was getting a newer car that is simpler to maintain. Even though you don't see a lot of 996's on the road, you see a lot less M coupes, so that was a deal breaker for me...

Besides, there's NOTHING like the sound of a BMW inline 6...

Congratulations on your new car! It looks great, and I understand your concerns with warranty and ESS.

I always wanted to ask an enthusiast who is choosing a Porsche over an ESS BMW why he would be willing to get a car that is so much more difficult to over-steer safely. You obliviously get a much quicker an precise turn-in by removing all that weight from the front wheels, but I assume you wont be going much sideways anymore?

Great move on the 991. Congratulations. I also went from e90 M3 to 997.2. Both great cars and I often miss the M3 that I really hope to have both.

Interestingly, I was dropping by to see a GTR at the local dealer and the sales rep. Kept on talking about my p car instead of the GTR he's supposed to try selling. Again, if money isn't a concern, I'd love to have a GTR in my garage too. Just a fantastic car in its own way.

If a 997.2 Turbo S is settling well i should have just settled for one of those also.

That how i felt when I looked at the GTR. All the attention was on my M3 and not on the car I was going to buy. It kinda made me feel like i was making a mistake.

How do you like the PDK, was your M3 DCT?

Also, S-PASM not too stiff? I ordered that as well on mine.
