Any car person would recognize most of the cars. The silver car to the right above the "M" is called "Street Beast" and clearly it is an M1 without the name. There must be 15 different Ferraris (including an FF right in front of the M1), many muscle cars, some Porsches (959's, 918 Spyder, 962), a Buick Grand National and lots more (CTS-V, GTR, Cobras, RX-7, TR-6, Camaros/Firebirds/Mustangs, and more. There are higher resolution pictures here that you can make out more cars on:

http://www.efwperformance.com/hotwheelsart/

Look at the ones without the S at the end.

Saw this on Twitter, awesome indeed!

Any plans for a follow-up project, say the ///M logo?

The follow up project is probably a Ferrari logo for my nephew - I have many of the yellow cars needed and those are not easy to find. I never thought about the M logo but that would have been much easier to do. I had to make this very large in order to get the cars to work on the letters and it is bigger in person than everyone thinks.

If you check out my Facebook page you can see our Lego subway sign that we made a few years ago as the last art project. The 2 are mounted on the same wall in our living room now. Lego Subway Sign This was made from scratch too and is also cooler in person. When you look at it up close it looks like the Death Star where Luke is flying through the trench to launch the missiles.

It took a very long time to collect all of the cars - I think we were collecting them for 6 months or more both in stores and on eBay. Collecting specific colors without too many duplicates is much more difficult than one would expect. It was fairly easy to do the logo and have it printed (2 weeks) and then took about 3 nights working on it to position the cars and attach them to the board.

It was surprisingly easy - just a hack saw. I wasn't sure if it would work but it just went right through. I guess Hot Wheels cars aren't made from high strength steel.

Cool! I still have all of mine from childhood in storage. Pushing those little die cast toys around have led me down a great path and into my very own BMW

It's cool beside having to cut a car in half to make it work. Kind of cheated!
