No that's a very bad idea. They shouldn't allow test drives.

They don't rev to 8000 rpm do they? The PDK I drove redlined at ~7600, but sounded glorious. Anyways, I was in your exact position. I drove a MK2 GT3 RS and a 991 S within weeks of each other and I cannot stop dreaming of driving a Porsche again! Hopefully your wife comes around, some tequila helps

Just about any modern 911 will be a blast to drive if you can afford one out of warranty. Be prepared for $300-400 oil changes ($80-$100 if you do them yourself) and be cautious of any used 2001-2005 911 or boxster due to IMS failures (*****************************=porsche+ims+failure).

I'll play devil's advocate and say Porsches do nearly nothing for me. Styling is too bland, and like lambos and ferraris, if you've seen one, you've seen them all (though I'll concede that's not as much the case with Porsche).

Not to say the driving dynamics aren't fantastic, just that the styling is too sterile for this cat. I'd still take one for free though, lol.

Me neither. When a near $100,000 car drives by, it should snap your neck. I've never understood why 911s command the price that they do, and yes I have driven them before. I'd take an R35 GTR over one every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

If you haven't driven one, it's a must. A 911 is an animal. When sitting behind the wheel, you can feel how mean this car is. It's got the stance of a bull dog and sounds like an angry rhino. Sports plus pushed and sport exhaust enabled it takes off screaming. Hit 4k rpm and the fun begins. It just keeps pulling all the way to 8k, in every gear. I don't know why you need more than 3 gears in this car...3rd is good to over 100mph. It produces a visceral driving experience I've not had since my 1978 Mazda RX7. The 911 really didn't feel any faster than my slightly modded 335, but it had TONS of grip, amazing handling, and unbelievable sound/feel!

...moving forward, dealer gave me the car for the afternoon, brought it home to give the wife and kid a ride, and she hated it. Thought it was beautiful but it was loud, too fast, daughter doesn't fit well in the back (grumpy 10 year old). Ugh! Heartbroken!

Really want to buy this but logic says no. I don't need or deserve a car like this. I already drive too fast and this would just make it worse. All in all, it's a pretty pricey weekend toy for me so I'll likely pass. For those of you who have pulled the trigger on a new 911, I'm very jealous.
You will not regret it. DO IT!

I wanted to go do the same at a local Porsche dealer but I can't now because I know with a distinct certainty that I will become more infatuated with the 991 than I already am.. I need a raise.

No doubt a 911 is a fantastic experience if you value the package (its not the fastest strait line) but the enthusiast also checks out the Cayman. People with weenie issues will call the car names but its a better drivers car for 99/100 people on public streets.

CPO is the way to buy any P car if you are frugal (and who isn't? Well some aren't

the new 981 is out and a nice redesign but looking at a 987.2 is a good idea as well. Not as many out there (987.1 sold in higher numbers) but you have the old hydraulic steering, can get sports/pasm etc...if you want/look for it.

Ours is a stripped 987.1, keep it simple, just drive the snot out of it. It just...works. I could have gotten a used 997 easily but the 30K price delta for like for like just wasn't of value to me.

Perfect compliment to the 335d

the 991 is the best car ive ever driven, it is amazing.

My favorite car. I don't even care which year it is or what model it is, one day I will own a 911.

That's why this old girl is usually my DD of choice:

There is no comparison in terms of straight line speed. A stock 991S is a 118 mph trap car whereas a 335 unless its running bigger turbos is not trapping anywhere near there. And again, you could mod a civic to be faster than Porsches, Ferraris and anything else, still won't give you the same experience. The 991S is faster than the new c7 vette which is a very fast car even though its got 60 less hp and 140 less hp. And the track times for the 991S speak for themselves. It's the best all around car in the world bar none.

And just because the OP didnt think it felt faster didnt mean wasnt. Im sure lining them up from a dig or a roll would show the 991S walking sven a timed 335 with great ease.

My e92 m3 (both of them) didnt feel that much faster than my modded 335s either but we all know the m3 is still quite a bit faster and the same applies here. Feeling faster vs being faster dont always go hand in hand.

Best looking 911 since the 993 IMO. I could never test drive one because then I'd spend the rest of my life trying to think of how to buy one! Now the Corvette on the other hand seems positively affordable in comparison...

Here is a couple pics of my 991 Carrera S. I have actually been thinking about selling/trading it in for a GTR or I may just keep it until the new Z06/Z07 comes out which i just placed an order for yesterday and the dealer says at least a year until it shows up so now would be the time to test out a GTR for the next year anyway.

To the OP coming from 2 e92 M3's and countless others this C2S is an absolute blast to drive if you decide that you do want one don't hesitate because you will not regret owning one but just don't get that blue one the interior didn't look that great. hint hint mine might be for sale

Regardless it is a very nice car, however what's up with the interior , it looks outdated and cheap , maybe its your camera. Not the you buy the car for the interior but still at 88k I was hoping for a little more. Exterior is really nice though
That is a base interior.

About a year ago, I went from my 2007 3.0si Coupe to a 2009 911 (997).

Honestly, while I love the 911 I still miss my Z4. The 911 is so accomplished that you can't really play the hooligan on public roads - to do so would be reckless. The 911 experience is more adult - you appreciate the engine, the precision on turn-in, the way it hunkers down and launches you out of a corner. There is nothing you can do to unsettle it.

Both are great cars, but the Z4 was a bit more fun vs. the Porsche's composure.

If you do go the Porsche route, the sweet spot is 3-4 year old cars with CPO. The CPO program is solid (more so than BMW's certified program) and the depreciation over this time is enormous, making them relative bargains vs. a new Porsche.
