I would totally back that up if you were talking about any other nose-heavy snowplow they make, but... it's like the least Audi Audi makes.

A blower would solve that very easily and if you can afford the car, then you can afford the blower. But if that is the case, would you not just afford the V10 too? I dunno.

The V8 came first, I forget if it was two full model years before the V10 came.
It would have been a hurtful move to DROP the V8 when the V10 was introduced. This concept can apply to anything, drop the 128 since they offer the 135, or the Cayman vs the Cayman S. The R8 V8 and V10 are a good business plan and I am sure the sale reflect it with a likely mix of 60-80% or more on the V8. I think people buy an R8 often for the exotic looks/attention which the V8 gets them while V10 has no visual distinction.

You could always option out a 911 C4S to comfortably over $100-115k so I don't see how the R8 is such a disgrace at $120k with a V8.

The R8 definitely has its place in the market. It is $46k less than the V10, at $115k. It holds up very well to the new 991 4S. Matter of fact, I would rather have R8 V8 than a 4S.

I personally don't label it a Super Car. To me, it's an 911 C4S alternative and in my area neither car even turns my head they are so common. It in many ways reminds me of the NSX which was the DD sports car of my youth with super car aspirations.

Do you think the designer sits there and says, "oh wait, this looks too bad ass, too much like a supercar...let me tone this down in case they give it less power".

It's not surprising to me. Most of the rolling races I've seen the older R8s get their asses handed to them!
Sorry, the CLA 4-door is hideous looking. The hatch makes the lines so much nicer IMHO.

I'm gonna point this out to every single person who posts this and wows themselves at the marvel of AMG "Engineering" that is the CLA 45 (already have before on an other forum). Audi already made two of these cars with these same performance capabilities and MPG numbers (with, IMHO, a superior AWD system): the RS3 and the TT-RS (which did come stateside, albeit for a limited run). Not to mention Audi's with transverse 2.0T's are capable of the same performance\fuel economy with modification for MUCH cheaper than this and still be reliable...I owned one of them, so I would know. Not to mention, you get a better interior as well...even in the not-mentioned-above VW Golf R (that still has a better interior).

i'm more surprised that people think an R8 V8 is fast. Racing it on the straight kind of defeats the purpose as a load of cars half its price can probably hang with it, even with half the cylinders.

It's the image given. Most of us don't even think of the seconds, when shown a picture of it. Personally, anything with an Audi logo gets me to a state of despair. I can't still believe I'm stuck with one till August.
