If it did happen it does not surprise me, he is lucky he did not get beat for the whole amount. The scam artists are good these days at making fake bank checks. If you are dealing with someone you do not know, deal in cash and only cash. I know it is a pain to deal with that much cash and worse yet, when you try and deposit it in the bank, they will ask all kinds of questions if it is over 10K.

As a side note to everyone, we all tried this in the past of buying a car and then claiming you paid less to save on taxes or registration fees, well most states do not care what you paid they will pull Kelly Blue Book and charge you taxes based on what it says.

i personally know somebody that got scammed when he was selling his e39. this involved only one check though. the check bounced at the bank and the car was supposedly on it's way to washington. the cops later found some leftovers of the car some where, so the car was basically chopped up and sold to others by the thief.

Its fake.. The guy was a MB forum member and got banned and keeps coming back and doing crap like this. If I recall right he drives a 1980's diesel mercedes. He has been banned from just about all forums.

ok, i'm selling a car. I told the guy who lives quite far from me to just get a cashier's check and give me the # by tonight. I will call the bank to verify the check. If it's ok, we do the transaction on Saturday. Is there a way this guy can rip me off?

thats going to be tough...if you wrote on the bill of sale for 24k....hmmmmm.....might be SOL.....consult legal advise and see what they say.
