I so want to say something about the stick thing, but I will refrain. I don't want to get spanked by her. I know you'd enjoy it though.
Oh and by the way, I think the "stick" thing was called a paddle IIRC. Too many damn years ago, I forgot.
Oh Tim. You know at least half of your brethren don't understand internet jargon. They probably think IIRC was a typo for IROC. It's so adorable when your grandparents use slang or abbreviations tho.

I had several games that were text-based from a company call INFOCOM (i think). The Hitcher's Guide to the Galaxy, Trinity, Zork, Leather Godesses of Phobos, and many more. I had an Apple IIc, so everything was on floppy discs, no cassette tapes. I did have cassette tapes for my very first computer, a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A.

Speaking of Tim… I just saw an advert for AARP insurance. Apparently they got real great rates and perks. But you gotta be over 50 so I don't qualify. TiMSport - can you co-sign for me?

You know that you're *almost* old enough to be in this thread when you receive your first AARP membership solicitation junk mail.

I finally got them to stop sending them to me by running the envelope and its contents through our shredder, stuffing the confetti and original intact address label into their pre-paid postage reply envelope, and mailing it back to them...over a dozen times......

Sadly it wasn't in the mail. I just saw it on a commercial lol

But good to know. I'll report back when I start getting them in the mail.

I've stopped spam messages in a similar manner. I find an email address of someone in the company that is hounding me and I set up a rule in Outlook to forward all email from the company to me back to that person, then delete the original. So I stop seeing the offending emails in my Inbox and pretty soon they stop showing up in my Deleted Items.

Try attaching a 15.9 MB video of your middle finger to each of those returned emails.....

You know you're old when...

Come on, you have access to better gear than that 15.9 of a finger, that's barely 1024

Chosen for the default maximum file/message size (16 MB) in some popular email server platforms. If you exceed that size, the recipient's server will be giving YOU the finger as the forwarded message will be returned to you as the sender.....

Even after cataract surgery, I have such a hard time seeing in the dark. Add in rain....

Can someone please explain to me why they don't use that highly reflective paint to mark the lanes here like they use in FL? Does salting the roads in winter eat it up, or is it more expensive?

Waits for the smart ass youngins to chime in. Just wait. The struggle is real.

Time to get to work. Lots going on today.

Most road markings use polymer-based paints which are slippery in the wet and can increase the risk of a crash for riders.

Silicone and reflective glass beads used in road striping paint can be extraordinarily slippery.

I've never stopped to examine it close up, but I think that some of the lane dividers in the south use shallow grooves under the paint to amplify the reflectivity. I would imagine that they fill in with salt/sand in snowy areas, nullifying any reflectivity advantage. Attempts to recess reflectors into the pavement to make them plow-safe will probably also quickly clog up in the north.

Florida uses raised road reflectors for lanes and stuff, including blue reflectors on local streets to highlight fire hydrants for first responders. These obviously would not survive a snow plow blade.

The NY State Thruway deployed some flexible flappy-type lane marker reflectors at a few exit ramps about 10-15 years ago, which I suspect would better survive a plow blade. Those suckers were *bright* at night! I just looked at the 2021 Google Maps street view of one exit that had them, and they are no longer in place.....

That's because Florida is like a grave yard for elefants but for people, and they need the extra help to be able to see JK
