The return trips in the winter almost always required placing a newspaper in front of the radiator. Coming back from Boulder one time when it was really cold, I put a full-thickness Sunday Denver Post in front of the radiator. The paper was crazy-thick, but at least it got the water temperature gauge to come off the stop and keep me from freezing to death.

Well, when I went to bed last night we were at 5" of snow.

This morning after an over night rain, the snow was down to 2" very compact slush.

But today we were at 42°F at lunch time.

Another winter storm is on its way here. We got a winter storm watch (guarantee it will go to a winter storm warning)—Friday 2 am to Saturday 7 pm. We're supposed to get anywhere from 8-12 inches. Can get more.

Noice....

I live right by the lake in the city, so not so much snow for me. They’re telling y’all suburbanites not to dilly dally getting the snow shoveled or it will freeze rock hard on Sunday and you’ll have to wait until March for it to melt.

My mom invited some people over Saturday night. I'm trying to tell her to cancel the party. I doubt anyone will show up. She thinks we won't get hammered.

My brother is in the City at Depaul. He said they got rain when we got snow

Yeah, that photo you posted surprised me. We literally have nothing on the ground right now on the north side. I’m with my dad right now in Park Ridge and there is snow on the ground here.

Okay, you just need to leave now! Take your sunshine and get off my lawn! Oh, wrong thread. 😄

Today is basically the same as yesterday; sunny, 56°F right now with a high predicted to be 59.

Just wait 'till summer comes and I'll be in 100°F plus temps. You'll see a lot of complaining from me.

This is my little bit of heaven right now and I'm gonna post about it.

Well, they are calling from anywhere between 4" to 12" in the next 24 hours.

I have my doubt about the up to 12" but the snowblower is ready to go...

I'm having a feeling of foreboding -- we are right in the bullseye of storm coming ashore tomorrow. It may be snow or sleet/freezing rain and it will be followed by record-setting low temperatures for several days.

Snow we can deal with but freezing rain... bad news. Two years ago we got a major freezing rain/ice storm that took power lines and power poles down. We were without electric power for two weeks.

We are prepping, but hoping for the best.

I never have understood this, but Dallas/Fort Worth is very susceptible to ice storms. I don’t have statistics, but they seem to get ice much more often than snow. Lubbock, where I grew up, is about 325 miles further west and only about 30 miles further north, but they are more likely to get snow. Ice storms completely shut down DFW.

We have a nice red warning for this afternoon too. Looks like it might be another repeat false alarm but one of these days they might actually be right. Last time it was 20% snow 80% rain.

Either way, I get an early start to the weekend today so I can hibernate at home when the white stuff starts falling.

Temperature drops this week with a high of -13C on Tuesday, I guess those are real the January temperatures we can tell the younger generations about.
