At least your Chief is trying to keep up with modern times.

He might not be able to pay for extra training, but maybe he can pay for the ammo. Ask for that for now.

That dovetail mount sits high. Seems like a waste of space.

There is always a better/cheaper way, but at some point you just have to bit the bullet and commit.

He forced the red dots on us. Everyone else has the rear sight removed and a dovetail plate installed. I had mine milled before he said no so I'm the only one that's milled. So I'm fine with it. Everyone else hates it.

This year I pushed to get the adjustable brightness RM06 model so I will be switching over to that once they come in and everyone else going forward will be getting the RM06 as well. I'm still working on him letting everyone else mill their guns. It's a process but I'll get us there.

here's my off duty gun with one of work's spare RMRs and someone else's duty gun with the dovetail mount.

What is that metal flange on the right hand side? Does that fold up to cover the sight?

That is just a cover plate or maybe adapter plate for the slide. When you take off the red dot sight, there is an empty space on the slide. That plate fills it in. You can also get adapters to mount other sights since different manufacturers use different size parts.

So when actually using the gun that isn't on it. Whew. I was wondering how you avoid that when the slide slams back into your hand.

Neat! Yeah the G45 MOS sounds like the best fit; especially with the interchangeable back straps, etc. it could adapt to fit anyone. As you mentioned, sounds like it will be quite a while before current issued pieces are upgraded though and who knows what will be out by that time.

Regarding red dot mounting/placement though, that dovetail mount definitely looks rather pitiful. When in hand, are there any obvious safety concerns you could see come up between those vs a more preferred optics mounting solution (snagging, bending, shifting, etc.)?

Also, with all the different mounting positions these days for iron sights, has anyone seen any credible studies as to what works best in duty/tactical situations for the average user (mounting rear sight in front of optic vs behind optic, co-witness suppressor height sights, no rear sight at all, etc.)?

Has the striker vs hammer+safety topic been discussed on this thread? I haven't read all 239 pages.

I have been a hammer+safety/decocker owner for a long time. I have also rented and used some striker fired guns. Striker guns I believe are cheaper to manufacture, so the economic incentive is for the gun makers to phase out hammers in favor of strikers.

I like them both, from a target shooting usability and accuracy point of view. I do like the visual confirmation of a hammer and the tactile assurance of a decocker/safety lever.

What do all ya'll think about this topic? Will hammer+safety guns continue to be updated and new models introduced? Or will they fade away as striker fired become the only models offered?

I have no hobbies except cars. Golf isn't my thing, tennis...done with it. Guns? Yes! I'm down.

I drive by a range/shop 2x per day (to and fro work) and decided to take a class and see whats up. I have been exposed to gun most of my life: some rifles, shotguns and pistols but never owned one.

So here I am...after the class: 3hours: 2 safety and 1 shooting, I love it!

Anyone else into it? My first gun is a Glock 19, 9mm. It's very cliche to buy a Glock but I fired a lot of guns at the class and it just "felt" great...I had to have it

Any one else into it?
Oh I'm into it, been shooting and reloading for some time now.. mostly a long range shooter, put fav pistols gotta be my Colt 1911 Model 70 Gov. and CZ 75

The issues I am noticing with the others shooting is they bring the gun up and then have to tilt it down so that wastes time. Our holsters fit with no issues.

I have also noticed guys still looking for the front sight so most have taken it off so I brought up optics failure (we do have ways around it) and the need for backup sights so maybe the chief will let everyone else start milling.

The dovetail mount is made by Trijicon (part RM44) and is one tough beast! But I still prefer the slide milled. We haven't tried different iron positions but will probably do rear sight forward of the optic going forward with our Glock 31s if it fits our holsters (Safarilands). If not, we will go with the way I have it setup now.

The SP01 is one of my favorites (after my 1911's of course), letting people shoot my SP01 has created a couple of converts too.
