Well, unfortunately the U.S. government is willing to put our tax dollars down the drain. In order to "save us".

An easy gain of votes from the ecological crowd. In today's digitalized world ppl forgot what a middle ground is. They want to win so it's either one extreme or the other.

I am afraid, our Canadian government will do the same thing with us. They are not interested in saving the future. They are interest in putting the money in their pockets.

I agree with that. I believe in advocacy and staying involved. Always lots to fix. But it’s still a glorious time in human existence in which to live.

Your tax dollars NOT at work again. Slap a politician, it will make you feel good.
Road to zero-emission buses proves challenging for Minnesota transit agencies Dec. 20, 2023 Duluth and the Twin Cities have been pioneers in the zero-emission bus transition. In 2015, Duluth received a $6.3 million federal grant for six, ultimately seven, battery-electric buses from Proterra. The buses, delivered in 2018, were the first of their kind to operate in Minnesota. Both the Twin Cities and Duluth have had problems with their battery-electric buses. For one, they can’t go as far as their builders advertised, in part because of the cold weather. Metro Transit’s accordion electric buses were touted to go 150 miles on a single charge. “Using garage chargers alone, electric buses can remain in service for 70 to 75 miles before needing to return to the garage; with on-route chargers, electric buses were scheduled to be in service for up to 90 miles before returning to the garage,” Metro Transit spokesperson Drew Kerr said. Metro Transit’s battery-electric buses are also less reliable than their diesel-fueled counterparts. A September 2023 presentation to the Met Council’s Transportation Committee showed the battery-electric buses broke down twice as often. The buses were also unable to meet 20% of their scheduled operating miles because they needed battery replacements, which were performed under warranty amid supply chain issues. https://www.minnpost.com/environment...nsit-agencies/ In a completely unrelated story What led to EV darling Proterra’s bankruptcy Proterra, a company that develops battery systems for buses and other heavy duty EVs, filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, making it the latest in a string of failures in the EV sector. Things were going well enough that it went public in 2021 via a merger with special purpose acquisition company, in a deal was valued at $1.6 billion. https://techcrunch.com/2023/08/09/wh...as-bankruptcy/ Can a green politician or green grifter get a lump of coal for Christmas or do they walk away with millions after the defraud stock holders? |

https://edmontonjournal.com/news/loc...not-roadworthy More than half of Edmonton's $60-million electric bus fleet not roadworthy Proterra, the American company the city purchased the electric buses from between 2019-2022, is in Chapter 11 filing for bankruptcy protection. Edmonton’s on a list of creditors, seeking $1.3 million and fulfillment of service and warranties Author of the article: Jackie Carmichael Published Nov 23, 2023 • Last updated Nov 23, 2023 • The first electric test bus is seen at the Centennial Transit Garage in Edmonton on Sept. 19, 2019. A more than $60-million “transformational” effort to move to electric buses in Edmonton is stalled at the curb. Just six per cent of the Edmonton Transit System’s 1,000-bus fleet are electric buses, but those are very squeaky wheels. Three-quarters of the city’s 60-bus electric fleet is in the garage with poor immediate prospects for parts to fix them. Proterra, the American company the city purchased the electric buses from between 2019-2022, is in Chapter 11 filing for bankruptcy protection. Edmonton’s on a list of creditors, seeking $1.3 million and fulfillment of service and warranties. ETS has traditionally been careful to keep parts supplied, said Steve Bradshaw, president and business agent for Amalgamated Transit Union Local 569, which represents workers in operations, maintenance and security at ETS. During the pandemic, when other transit properties were floundering, ETS had spare parts to spare. But not with Proterra’s warehouses shut down. “Parts are not available to properly run their buses … it’s very problematic,” Bradshaw said. Edmonton, on Friday, April 13, 2018. Edmonton gets jolt of cash for 40 electric buses Still touted online as “super-efficient” and “efficient financially,” the buses aren’t currently living up to expectations. Even if a battery powering an electric motor means less maintenance for 20 years, “if you can’t keep that bus on the road for other parts around (the battery), then you can’t call that bus efficient,” Bradshaw said. It takes a diesel-powered on-board heater to keep the body of the bus warm. And despite $200,000 in special blankets to keep all those batteries toasty, the Proterra buses are still feeling that northern Alberta chill in their skimpy range. |
