So this one has be a bit puzzled. I'm pretty sure this is some kind of morphed red-tailed hawk just by the shape of the body. I thought it was a northern harrier from a distance.

Well, the pic got explored, and I've been informed that it is a Ferruginous hawk. A new one for me. He's a bit off course in California.

Congrats on the Explore. Yes, the coloring is key. The profile of the red-tail, Swainson's and ferrugenous are really very close. Great shot.

Crappy picture as it was taken with my cell, but stunning (i think) nonetheless for the sheer volume and size of the hail. The front of the house got crushed but the M3 was in the garage!

Looks like around here on Monday. It's Thursday and there are still piles of unmelted hail.
