This post made me LOL!

Being in IT for my career, I don't mind all the tech...but I've also reached a point where I am realizing it doesn't lend any value to the actual driving experience. So do I really need it? But I agree with you on the future and the direction that tech is playing, and to add to that - in differentiating and selling cars. I've read articles that state that most cars today drive reasonably well - it's the tech packages that are attracting buyers and that is the space that most car manufacturers are investing in. As I mentioned, I don't need more tech, I need more soul and a return to the driving experience. That comes with analogue gauges.

Just imagine for a moment what Michelangelo went through in his 30s, painting The Sistine Chapel ceiling in fresco between 1508 and 1512 (over 500 m˛ of ceiling). Michelangelo - who actually considered himself primarily a sculptor rather than a painter - worked while standing on a freestanding scaffold that he had built himself (displeased about the scaffolding they had prepared for him). He painted in a standing position, not lying on his back, with the greatest discomfort, for he had to stand there working with his head tilted backwards. For a couple of months he refused to work on the ceiling on account of a dispute over payments for work done. Gold was supposed to be added in the end, but this never took place, in part because Michelangelo did not want to rebuild the scaffolding. He suffered from backache while painting The Sistine Chapel, and even wrote a poem lamenting his suffering.

I've grown a goitre by dwelling in this den–
As cats from stagnant streams in Lombardy,
Or in what other land they hap to be–
Which drives the belly close beneath the chin:
My beard turns up to heaven; my nape falls in,
Fixed on my spine: my breast-bone visibly
Grows like a harp: a rich embroidery
Bedews my face from brush-drops thick and thin.
My loins into my paunch like levers grind:
My buttock like a crupper bears my weight;
My feet unguided wander to and fro;
In front my skin grows loose and long; behind,
By bending it becomes more taut and strait;
Crosswise I strain me like a Syrian bow:
Whence false and quaint, I know,
Must be the fruit of squinting brain and eye;
For ill can aim the gun that bends awry.
Come then, Giovanni, try
To succour my dead pictures and my fame;
Since foul I fare and painting is my shame.

Well, Mickey Angelo was trying to impress God. I was just trying to replace an old light fixture. Wifey is happy, so I guess that's almost as good.

That was Caravaggio (1571-1610), not 'the' Michelangelo of The Sistine Chapel and the Pietŕ (1475-1564).

Both brilliant artists, both complex tormented personalities but in a different way. If Michelangelo was rather a revered but solitary Batman, then Caravaggio was more like The Joker / Dark Knight, a dark freak on the run frequently picking violent fights.

How Michelangelo handled a clown criticizing his "David":
"When Piero Soderini, the Standard Bearer of Justice in Florence, said that Michelangelo’s David had too thick a nose, the artist responded with an elegant sleight of hand: Michelangelo climbed the scaffold, and grabbed his hammer and chisel and a handful of marble dust. He tapped lightly on the chisel, permitting dust to fall little by little from his hand, without actually altering anything. “Ah that’s much better,” exclaimed the duped observer. Michelangelo climbed down, “feeling sorry for those critics who talk nonsense in the hope of appearing well informed.”"

PS - just noticed that I lusted after that car in '68, and I am now 68. lol

Haha, I've seen that before. Yeah, maybe something like that.

Here's the long version of the video, including the injuries.

Edit: and think about the innocent people in their cars in front who got hit. What happened to them? What if there were kids involved?

A lot of teachable moments in that encounter, but the "old collector car" and what can go wrong is the primary theme. And this happens more often than we like to admit.
