Thanks Mark, the 7DII and the 500mm with no TC on it is a lethal combo. This is a pretty heavy crop, as this guy was on top of a ridge about 500 yards away from me.

I was playing tour guide all week, but I brought my camera along, and was still able to grab a few good shots. All the out-of-towners were very impressed with Pt Reyes and the elk just wandering along the road.

Either your aim is getting better, Ed or that 7D MkII suits you. Or both. Nailed focus again.

Nice shot, Ed. That tower way in the background on the right must be enormous.

Well done. You got that done before the haze swamped the city. My shooting was around town. Never took the 24-105mm off the camera.

Thanks Mark!

That is Sutro tower, the main TV transmitter in the region, and it is indeed huge (977 ft. with a base elevation of 834 ft. so it is 1,811 feet above sea level). It is located at twin peaks, very near the geographic center of the city.

Thanks Dave!

Yeah we went there on Monday, just before the haze descended on us, after a nice morning at Muir Woods. I had the16-35 on the camera that day from shooting redwoods, so it worked out well for the bridge too. I want to get back there for some night shots, but vacation is over and I'm back at work. Maybe over the Christmas break.

Looks like a nice day there Dave.

We had rain here yesterday, but I like the way it worked for my shots from the Napa Valley

I wish the underwater camera had a raw mode...I'm going to try this next week a little differently.

Not as sharp as I'd hoped, but it got Explored on Flickr (I'll never understand their criteria):

Maybe not sharp at pixel peeping level, but really nice magic hour light and background and looks very nice to me looking at it on my TV from the couch.

Thanks Ed.

I really like looking at images on my HDTV. Now that prices are coming down, I'm seriously considering a 4k monitor. I have no idea where you'd get video content to view, but I've got tone of images with over 4k resolution. Anyone here looked at full resolution pix on a 65" 4k monitor?

Bought my first 'real' camera last week, a Nikon D3300. Next day took some photos of my Miata (M3 is filthy). Really excited to see what I can do with this thing!

Konig, congrats on the new camera. You're off to a good start.

For that shot you posted, I'd suggest stopping down to f/8.0 or f/11.0 to get more Depth of Field. A shutter speed below 1/100-sec. would have been fine for a still car.

Try a few more shots, from lower angles and higher focal length, etc. to take advantage of your new equipment. Now that you own the digital equipment, multiple shots of the same thing are close to free. Still think about what you're doing, but experiment with different perspective, different focal lengths, etc. You'll learn by doing. Shoot a lot, but be critical on yourself and you'll get better and better.

Take twenty shots of the same thing, but all different. Pick the best two and shit-can the rest. Be hard on yourself and you'll learn the things that work.

Dave
