The eagles are still around here. I'll be taking snow shots this weekend. We're expecting up to 18". Dave

Thanks guys.
That was an amazing moment. I'd stood around for a couple of hours, with nothing happening, then an eagle flew right over me: Immature Bald Eagle Flies By by dcstep, on Flickr and then I, literally, turned around to see the coyote.

Thank you Garen.
My new EF 500mm f/4L IS II keeps blowing me away. It's only supposed to be a teeny, tiny bit sharper than my old Series I, but I keep noticing that the images are really, really sharp. That shot was at 1/2000-sec., so the improved IS shouldn't be the factor. Both had accurate focus, so I'm at a loss to explain my recent IQ improvement, other than it must be that the new lens is even sharper. Can't put it down... Dave

Could be your older one is a tiny bit out of whack? I've never micro adjusted mine, but I'm tempted to give it a try sometime. I just worry about making it worse

Everyone should try this test. Shoot a flat road sign, in good light at f/8.0, about 50-feet away, with shutter speed up at 1/2000, on the tripod. Shoot it first with the AF sensor, using the viewfinder, using single-shot quiet mode; then don't move anything and go to 10X Live View, focus and shoot. Look at them side by side at 200% and if they're the same, then you need no micro-adjustment. If the sharpness improves, then you need an MA. You can lay them right on each other and see even the smallest difference. I went back to look at old reviews and found this one saying the same thing that I'm seeing: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx Dave
