The biggest drawback listed is that there is no recoil?

Exactly, the only thing that seems to be untrainable using the Mantix is recoil management and anticipation.
But training trigger squeeze may help some users on the anticipation part. The benefit of using devices like these are improving sight picture, breathing, grip and trigger squeeze. Oh yeah... And saving money on ammo until you're ready to put rounds on paper to confirm your grouping has improved after using the laser.

Breathing and trigger squeeze are the biggest reasons for poor shot placement. Once someone understands those things they can start poking shot groups the size of a nickel at almost any distance (within reason).
Breathing is always the first thing I train Soldiers on. We are taught it in basic, but most people forget all about it once range time comes. They get nervous and in the anticipation of waiting for the target they hold their breath, and then they miss damn near every shot. I lost count how many times I've had multiple time failures come to me, we go over breathing, and their next round they pass with the best score they have ever shot. The way I teach, once you get breathing down and can stay consistent on when you're going to fire, then you can focus on finger placement and trigger squeeze, but without proper breathing you'll chase holes all day.

True.
I had lasik done a while back to correct my astigmatism and I wish I never had. Before I had bad astigmatism in my left eye and mild in my right eye, now I have very mild in my left eye and worse in my right than I had before. On top of that I now have bad dry eye ever since lasik, which causes my eyes to swell further screwing up my vision. Of course I'm right handed so now my sight picture is dicked. My eyes reject contacts and they can seldom make small enough prescriptions anyways, and I hate prescription glasses because I would need 5 different pairs for different things, plus I test 20/20 anyways. My girlfriend is a COT at a local clinic that offers lasik and PRK. I guess PRK is my only option now to correct it because of Fuchs dystrophy. I'm hesitant because I don't want to go even more backwards.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you had - that has to be frustrating (and scary).
I'm just writing to recommend PRK (had it 7+ years ago) - any follow up procedures are always PRK in my understanding. |

Apex tactical, they are pretty nice. Have been running it in the 17 for a while, just picked up for the 45. Have used apex, timney and zev in the past. Apex is the best bang for the buck if you ask me.

Shot a 17 or 18 round of trap with the 16ga from 16yds.
Not great, but it's a journey. I felt rushed and distracted at the start. Plus I changed a few things from last time with this gun: foot position, choke (today was modified, last time was full) and barrel (today was bottom, last time was top). Most of my misses were on station 1 on left birds, as usual for me. Thanks to my puller, John. On the other hand, it was a great day for shooting with overcast and milder temps. Looking for the first 25! |

Thank you that you brought that to my attention, maybe I'll try that onto the 17, the 34 is very fine to trigger.

I’m looking at lever action 22s as well. Trying to find one that comes with a threaded barrel since we mostly shoot suppressed these days. Kids start school on Monday so I think this weekend would be a good time to get outdoors and do some shooting.
