In a weird twist of fate, my dealership called me this morning and said they were offering $2,500 under invoice on ANYTHING IN STOCK. Anything! Including M's. Sadly though, I wasn't able to bring myself to sign the papers on a DCT car they had on the lot. It didn't help that they had sunroofs either. Just didn't seem right. While I was there, I remembered that the f80 can be equipped with cloth seats (which I always wished I could have on my f30), and for some reason that and the 6MT rev matching feature just got me fired up about the whole experience. Totally unexpected. One thing lead to the other, and I just signed the papers on an f80, provided they secure an allocation today. Should be a fun car. Oddly enough, I was not excited about it until I was there and it felt like it was actually happening. I'm really looking forward to it now!

The whole situation is very unlike me. To change plans like that after initially wanting to wait for the LCI. Some deals are just too good to pass up on. Seriously.
Exactly. Purchases of cars like this are an emotional decision. Stop trying to rationalize it lolz

Which got me thinking ... it's got to be me, not BMW. Sure, they may not feel like BMW's of yesteryear, and may not evoke the same emotions and raw feeling of utter driving bliss ... but by God they make some of the best cars around! Period!

It's not you BMW ... it's me!

Simply put, I've been spoiled by BMW's to where not even a BMW seems good enough anymore.

So, I'm thinking of taking a detour with my next car. Heading in a different direction. Maybe a palate cleanser is due for, to put things into perspective. And with gas this cheap (won't be here forever), why not! Something big, brawny and freaking loud and obnoxious. Must have 4 doors. I definitely prefer manuals, but don't mind driving an auto for a while too. In the name of change.

New is better, but also don't mind something lightly used. I'd also prefer to not get slaughtered selling it.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Any other suggestions?

What say you bimmerpost?
W205 C63. Do it. My order is in.

All this based on the assumption gas price will remain low? Why should it? Once Russia collapses, gas price will get back up.

Once Russia collapses? If that happens, screw gas prices. We may find ourselves in the midst of WWIII! Once Russia gets desperate enough, they start invading their neighbors! It's a very delicate situation.

But yes, all this under the assumption gas prices were to remain cheap for 6-12 months. Get a gas guzzling car for a few months, have fun with it, and flip it for an f80. Not sure why that is so difficult to imagine.

Unfortunately, Not until March. The dealer knows what I want because the order guide was released but no allocations have been given out yet. At least not to my local dealer.

It's a challenger rt with a 392 hemi. Probabably best bang for the buck out there right now in my opinion.

I had a chance to drive one. Buddy got a challenger and we swapped for 2 days. First day, I drove half throttle off every light. That was fun. Then I realized I was soon going to get arrested. Once I had the girlfriend in the car going to dinner, different story. Had to take it easy, hold a conversation, make a phone call for reservations. Running errands and around town is a totally different story. It was very apparent at that point it was still a $20k vehicle with a $30k motor.

Although it was fun, the whole car is more of a novelty. When you try to drive it around town, commute to work, the refinement just isnt there. A base 3 series would be light years above this thing in terms of tech, steering feel, nav speed, phone clarity. etc.

Bummer. Was really looking forward to it. Maybe I can find it as a rental at one of those exotic car rental places?

Get a CPO one. With the new Panamera coming, you can get a decent deal on old one once the new one come out probably in 2016 as MY 2017.

Some other options.

CTS-V wagon. Nothing says cool like snubbing your nose at the SUV obsession and driving a real wagon, a real mean arsed wagon at that.

Try the Commodore (Chevy SS) with the 'Vette engine in it.

C63 507 Edition. The M156 is one of the last great NA motors.

6.2L of German fury. 507 horsepower. An ECU tune will provide even more power/torque for less than $1k. Then, if you add headers and an exhaust, you'll be making enough power to reverse the Earth's rotation.

Loud? Check. Your neighbors will love you.

I like the new Hellcats and if you like it definitely go for it.

I don't think current gas prices should affect your decision that much. Yes, right now gas prices are pretty good, but within 3-5 years, I think they'll return to what we've had before.

No that was Mode Carbon's project C63 507. I do have some Mode Carbon carbon fiber pieces for my car that I am going to install in the spring.

Here's mine:
