As power goes up, AWD makes sense because what is the point of having more power if you can't get it down on the pavement?

I would very much consider an X3M as opposed to the F8X M3...

I don't think there is any question BMW nailed it with the 2 series. But when you have a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 portfolio, and only 2 of those lines currently appeal to enthusiasts, you have a problem. I've owned 3 generations of M3s, and this is the first time I'm on the fence about getting another one. I liked knowing in the past that the M3 was the go-to enthusiast car. I don't think that holds anymore.

Well sure, but with an engine that's not wheezy and disappointing, and has some sort of a hint of practicality?
BRZ/GT-86 could have been a godlike sports coupe if they had put a proper I6 in the front.

Edit: I don't see a car for me in the near future and that's sad very sad. I think many share this dire sentiment with me.

Funny they won't make the M-suv that actually makes some sense, the X3M.
Either they don't realize how popluar it would be, or they don't want to undercut sales of X5 and X5M. |

There's more to driving enjoyment than fast lap times. I don't begrudge anyone their lap weapon, but I hope BMW will continue to make cars that are superlative performers and exciting to drive.

I'd have settled for something like a Honda F22 or K20. I really liked the chassis on the BRZ, but the engine was... bleh.

BMW was and always will be a volume brand and need it to survive where as Porsche can keep making "cars with passion" because they will always be a niche brand...backed by one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world. |

Maybe just focus on making your cars lighter instead? Then you wouldn't have to keep upping the HP and add AWD to keep up with the bloat. Not sure why there is this huge focus on making each car more powerful instead of just being better.

AWD not being part of sports cars is from the day when AWD systems were horribly inefficient, heavy, and heavily deterred performance. As Audi has proven, nearly none of these things are true, and AWD actually improves performance in some cases. The 335 is an excellent example of this. So where HP is increasing into the tiers of 500 and beyond, AWD seems logical.
