Was a great car, Australians did it right! One of about 4 good ones they made:

-1967 GTO
-2000 TA WS6
-2006 GTO
-2008-2009.5 G8

Ever notice there are hardly any good car commercials anymore? Especially American car Marques that actually try to SELL or HIGHLIGHT performance?

Wouldn't you like to see a Mustang GT350 carving up canyon roads and doing a burnout?

I would.
It's a great strategic marketing commercial, because at that point you aren't trying to sell a GT350/R, you are putting the brand FORD out there, which will bring in other people.

The closest thing I can think of are the Dodge commercials where the Dodge brothers "insist in bringing the donuts".

For all you (including some guy from FL) whom think the old 60s-70s GTOs and Firebird/TransAms drive well. Try driving them again. They don't stop, turn, or even go that fast in a straight line stock. Last year I had the rare opportunity to test a survivor 1970 GTO 400. It was great when it didn't move. On the road it was just horrible.

Edit: apparently the above comment offended some assface. I do not retract my anecdote but revised the intro.

Thanks for the "Appreciates", fellas.
You're right. I dumped 150k into a 79 TA on gran turismo and it still sucked

Cuz you thought your Pontiac G6 was the subject of that horrible rap song?

Or that Pontiac was the OG "Ultimate Driving Machine"?
Well seeing as the G6 car had recently come out and was popular amongst younger and "rap oriented" crowds, yes, I figured the car was the subject of the song. Not some private jet that I had no idea about while I was still in high school...

The mere fact that they did not have large brakes, independent suspension and were under powered in general versus weight contributed to your comment. You could build them with these purties (not until the 2000's tho) but that took them out of the stock realm. I guess this would have to be another Top Gear (US) show.

This old fart has likely driven them (maybe even owned a few) and can honestly say that compared to a real car say the 2002 (which wasnt too far into the future then) that there is simply no competition.

For instance this one is still stuck in my head. I was driving to the beach with a few friends in some year one some almost straight road somewhere back in the late 80s and i must have been doing (like an idiot) 100 in my 79 Z28 (mostly stock). When i hear a whirl of a high pitched engine coming up behind me so i floored it. Yeah baby, i hit about 130 i guess and then i saw this 2002 fly by me like i was sitting still. by the time the next sweeping curve came he was gone. Like as in "Gone in 60 seconds" gone. Very light weight, not a big motor but certainly had the power to get up and get out of the way.

Now to qualify my comments. I do love a lot of those cars like the TA or the Z28, GTO, COBRA etc. but pound for pound stock for stock they simply were no match for even the BMWs of that day.
