I don't follow. Where's the breakdown in logic?

It's not crazy to assume the Acura would be a better vehicle in several metrics. A lot depends on price. I'm thinking a Type S will (should?) be priced like a 330i, but I'm concerned a Type S will be priced more like a base M340i and will try and win by being larger and better equipped (than a base M340).

Nice design but too big and heavy for me. Needs to be the size of an E90 to get me interested.

When a manufacturer has the balls to make a sports sedan with a proper manual transmission, then I'll start to get interested. Until then, any new car for me will be used and have 3 pedals.

Also, regarding the discussion of FWD vs. RWD. The reveal clearly states this is an Acura-only chassis. Honda could easily made it RWD based and added FWD for the AWD variant. I think Acura/Honda could sell the crap out of a light RWD architecture chassis sedan and coupe.

-Both RWD
-CT4 receives Turbo V6
-CT5 receives Supercharged V8 (LT2)
-Alpha Platform shared w/ Camaro
-Magneride Suspension
-Cadillac Steering Feel

i don't think you can really compare honda against the germans and americans in terms of performance. you buy one because you know you can own it worry free for 100k miles or more. the interior isn't going to fall apart, rattle, or wear down. Whens the last time you heard of honda having issues with their crankhubs or charge pipes cracking?

The 1.5l turbo is having serious oil blow by issues. Honda interiors look knackered when they're new, so yeah, they don't get much worse. Same is true of Legos though. Then there's the issue of nearly all Honda's being comically under braked and the service issues that come from that, not to mention the obvious related safety issue.

Honda reliability isn't what it use to be, however, it is still likely better than the Germans.

I guess more Type-S models down the pipeline to come, potentially.

Product plan for future Acura’s.

Its just marketing. I can't imagine many TLX buyers actually care how the car drives.

I wish the statement about their interiors was true. Honda/Acura interior leather has always been half the thickness it needs to be for long-term usage. Look at the reviews of any demo Acura and you'll see a worn, stretched out driver seat bottom. Personally, my TL-S had ruined leather EVERYWHERE from day-to-day use. The dash started cracking. The aluminum trim chipped if you looked at it funny. By comparison, my BMW aluminum trim has two small dings and two small scratches after 46k miles. My BMW leather looks nearly new.

Honda/Acura historically saves money with poor quality interior materials and thin, soft paint.

Surely the majority of Type S owners will care a lot.

I can show you the hundreds of my posts on the subject of the Cady ATS since 2013 praising the car's handling prowess, so I'm no Cadillac-basher. I don't think the CT4 and CT5 sans blackwing trim will have a manual transmission option. None of the current CT4 and CT5 have a manual last I checked two weeks ago.

Thats why I mentioned blackwing only, as those will be the only trims to receive manual transmissions.

Some people just enjoy driving a manual transmission without 8,000 horsepower and a 2 second 0 - 60 time. BMW used to build millions of them.

Only really Genesis is left then if you require luxury, otherwise, the hot hatch category has some pretty good choices, but yes, if four doors are a requirement, its a pretty limited search sadly.

The shame is Chevrolet has the chassis and the drivetrain, the V6 Camaro manual transmission drivetrain bolted right into the ATS and now the CT-4/CT-5. If Ford had any balls it could make a 4-door sedan out of the Mustang chassis. There is no reason BMW can't still build a N/A in-line 6 with a manual transmission. Once BMW started building gas-guzzling X5/X6/X7, they had to make the 3-seriers a turbo-farting 4-banger. Once you turbo an engine, you have to mask it with a computer-controlled automatic transmission. And when you want to turn the ultimate driving machine into a self-driving ultimate boring machine, there is no reason to keep developing manual transmissions.

Most of the issue has to do with US DOT crash testing regulations. With the pro-business Executive Administration currently in power, now is the time to lobby the US government to change the regulations to allow for computer-modelling of crash tests so a chassis can have several different drivetrain combinations without expensive crash testing of each version.

Hot-hatches were "hot" when I was 18 and that was a loooonnnnggg time ago
