100% agree. Pretty much anything to do with my son is my worst fear. As he gets older it's even more difficult to not be a helicopter parent.

I thought it was heights, but it seems more loss of control. I can't even get in a fermis wheel any more. One at Disney-Cal, where you are totally locked in a cage, and it swings in/out on the fixed rails: You can probably still see where I tried to climb out, ripping the mesh apart.
Went to the Space needle. It has that little drain, and the big glass windows. I was sneaking up on the windows to look down, when my SIL backed into the drain, squawked a little, and I nearly had a coronary. I wasn't going to drink that day, but immediately went and paid $10+ for a hard cider. |

I wouldn't call it necessarily a fear, but if I was Chinese and I wanted to F up America, I'd use a bioweapon. I'd use some common virus that I could manipulate, like the coronavirus, and anticipate America's reaction and response. Knowing they would vaccinate everyone possible, I'd have a common bacteria like Staph, Strep, or another common bacteria that I could manipulate by putting the same sequence of proteins found on the virus. I'd spread the bacteria to common food sources and upon ingestion, the vaccine would cause all sorts of inflammatory and auto immune reactions. It would basically overwhelm our healthcare system.

I have a fear that we are going to experience a recession worse than 08-11 and that scares the shit out of me in Florida bc of how bad it got there.
I guess my fear is more of a when than an if….. |

I dunno.... I think I'm ok with this. The person on the other end of that gig is going to get more than what they deserve...
Don't forget, it's not waterboarding if you use diesel...

Little fear: Getting bit by a black widow or brown recluse. I saw a brown widow in the garage a year ago and it scared the shit out of me.
Big Fear: Economy will shit itself just prior to whenever I want to retire.

Loneliness/not finding a long-term girl. I have a great social life but as time goes on, more and more friends get tied down. Priorities change.
Ending up not being rich, feeling average. Knowing that my parents will turn old and their health will decline. I see senior citizen patients daily...old age is a terrible thing.

I'm Australian and I hear this all the time from my American relatives and friends!
I grew up in Tasmania, one of the wildest places in Australia. It was a rude shock for me as a young child, moving there from Hong Kong. I lived in a city in Tasmania, but Tasmanian "cities" are more like small regional towns surrounded by forests and farmland. So you really learn to coexist with wildlife. There are actually signs on many roads in Tasmania telling people to drive slowly between dusk and dawn due to wildlife activity. I remember being scared by the glowing eyes of possums which were hanging out in the backyard at night. I spotted a giant lizard in my yard once. A wallaby frequented my yard for a few months. Some kids found a big huntsman spider in the dress-up box at school one day. Spiders were just everywhere in general. And I heard all kinds of stories about people finding venomous snakes in their homes! I moved to Melbourne as a teenager. I also have a large yard here, but Melbourne is a real city and I definitely haven't had as many close encounters with wildlife as during my years in Tasmania. |
