If the area where it sank isn't seriously deep, it'll be interesting to see what kind of environmental issues this causes. I guess it depends on how many lithium batteries there actually were on that ship.

Sorry but I’m just picturing all sea life battling each other for a Aventador.

April 14, 1912, Titanic sinks, and is remembered for all time.
March 1, 2022, Felicity Ace sinks, and will be a faded memory in a year. It tells you how important "things" are in the grand scheme. Probably a terrible toll on the environment though. |

So I'm reading at least 4,000 cars aboard, and expensive cars at that. So even at $125K a car that's half a billion dollars, plus the ship.
Most expensive man-made reef in history? Too deep there, can't even be a reef... Sheesh. |

Nightmare for all parties and insurance companies involved. I guess that also salvage teams will scratch their heads: it's a massive pile of melted rubble (fire ravaging for over a week) + filled fuel tanks for the trans-Atlantic journey, now lying kilometers below sea level. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-in-rough-seas "Burnt-Out Ship Carrying Porsches and Lamborghinis Sinks in Rough Seas Bloomberg - 1 March 2022, 14:41 CET - The Felicity Ace went under 220 nautical miles off the Azores - Models on board included VW, Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini cars The cargo ship that caught fire in the Atlantic while transporting roughly 4,000 Volkswagen AG vehicles to the U.S. has sunk despite efforts to tow it to safety. The Felicity Ace sank 220 nautical miles off the coast of Portugal’s Azores Islands around 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday after being battered by waves and leaning 45 degrees to its starboard side, the ship’s operator said. “The weather was pretty rough out there,” Pat Adamson, a spokesperson for MOL Ship Management (Singapore), a unit of Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd., said by phone. “And then she sank, which was a surprise.” Volkswagen had VW, Porsche, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini-branded models on the vessel, which was on its way to Rhode Island from Germany’s Emden port when the fire broke out on Feb. 16. The blaze is believed to have lasted more than a week after the Panama-flagged ship’s crew was evacuated and it was left adrift. Tug boats and salvage craft accompanying the vehicle are in the area to monitor the situation, Adamson said. “There doesn’t appear to be any oil pollution yet -- they’re checking on that,” the spokesperson said. Volkswagen declined to comment on Tuesday. The German carmaker had feared that large numbers of its cars on the vessel would not be salvageable, with brands and dealers notifying customers that the U.S.-bound vehicles likely wouldn’t be delivered. Damage to the cars is covered by insurance, the automaker had said last week. In a projection assuming all vehicles would be lost, the risk-modeling company Russell Group last week estimated that the incident could cost the automaker at least $155 million. Approximately $438 million worth of goods were aboard the ship, $401 million of which were cars." |

RIP, hopefully the ecological impact isn't too damaging but I'm sure it will be.

The RennList "experts" immediately placed the cause on EV's but there's nothing to substantiate that. It's all nonsense. That fire could've started for any reason. For all we know, a disgruntled worker set the fire on purpose.

In early reports the ship's captain was quoted as saying they did not know what started it, but that there were EVs on fire by the time they evacuated. Pretty sure it was over at that point.

Your idea is an interesting one. Just imagine a disgruntled worker thinking to himself. "F this! If I can't afford one of these cars, NO ONE is taking delivery of one!" |

….and of course people on RennList swear a bunch of cars are important enough for a full excavation and investigation into what caused the fire. My God!

There’s some character who goes by the name of Dave Gettleman who’s willing to charter people with scuba gear for the cost of your future first round pick.
