Nice rendering. Sadly, the last few model releases I ended up liking less than the renders. Add in the massive forward facing sensor in the grill, black trim connecting grill to lower opening, and a few other questionable design choices and I worry the end result won’t be as nice as this.

I reached out to our salesman asking to be top of their list for M5 wagon allocation. Would love to have that be the replacement for our X5M. Just praying BMW doesn’t screw up the design.

I like it.

I think the I5 pics we’ve all seen are bad because the lighting sucks in all of them and the black side skirts don’t show you the lines….which make it look disconnected to some.

I’d like to see the lines of the normal 5 series in the sun like these renders and with the skirts body colored.

Standards. What is the tolerance limit for poor aesthetic?

Will you repeat this argument when the next generation M5 is over 5,000lbs, bulkier, larger grill, and loaded further with artificiality? I will answer this for you since you already made your original argument: yes, because if it has 1,000bhp and BMW engineering, you still tolerate more and more negatives.

I won't, and no modern BMW allures me.
Regardless of how spectacular the S58 may be, or how fast the i4 50i may be.

To my surprise, I like it.

Although BMW's DRL's this upcoming generation are a downgrade.

It doesn’t look bad.

I think IRL the fenders will be wider in the rear.

It’s just a render, which could be wildly off.

Reminds me of a Cadillac with those lines on the side…

Great, it mostly sucks, but give it to me in wagon form, and all will be forgiven

This render looks nice overall. However, this new body is a touch underwhelming (to say the least) & those tail lights are a pretty sad attempt at being elegant. The folks behind the design of these new BMW's should sit down & get a lecture by true longterm BMW enthusiasts.

Been saying this for some time in regards to these new designs that people mention they will need time to warm up to.

If I’m not feeling warm sitting down taking a look at it on my phone screen, I’m not going to magically become excited by it in person. People did grow to like the G8x, I love the S58, just not a fan of the design language choices mated to it and that’s okay. They have a road presence but in person still don’t do it for me look wise, drive wise of course it’s better, that’s engineering over time.

I can sit here and look at a new 718 and say “wow I really like this design” from me looking at it on an iPhone then see it in person and become a child again. I don’t feel that same sensation for the more recent BMW lineup but I do appreciate their engineering boundaries that they keep pushing with each new generation.

Sounds like im taking with both sides of my mouth, but I agree with you regarding newer bmw design is foucus more on engineering and functionality rather than “awe” factor.
I especially loved the design of m6gc, it had a superb design and the real head turner, but really pain in butt while driving on high way, steering was sucked.
I couldn’t make myself buy a m8gc though, the design, especially from side is pretty meh, and nothing especial. Just a big sedan.
At the same time, people are buying more and more BMWs, it means that they are doing “something” right.
And we are in minority!
