I looked back 25 years ago and figured out what I made per hour, gas prices, car prices, house prices, etc. Gas is right in line (finally) with inflation. Gas was $1 a gallon in 1983 and now its $3.80 a gallon. With the numbers I came up with it should be about 3.5x what it was in 1983 to be the same as everything else. So $3.50 a gallon is what it should be, so $4.00 a gallon is a little high. We have just been spoiled for a long time. Now maybe people will stop buying HUGE Trucks and Sport Utility vehicles to just look COOL. Most of the people I see are alone just lookin COOL. Familys don't need these huge GAS PIGS, they can just get a nice wagon or minivan. I don't feel sorry for anybody who spends $100 a week on a huge pig truck, smell the coffee and buy something else, I did. I no longer drive my giant Tundra crew cab TRD 4x4 @ 10-12mpg.

Where do you buy your milk??? HAHA. We pay about $3.49 for milk. Sometimes Jewel has a good sale. Last week it was $2.49 a gallon, the week b4 it was $2.99 a gallon. But usually $3.49.

I have adopted an easy-to-use technique that helps relieve all worry about high gas prices:

Face away from the pump when filling up, and replace the hose without looking at the total.

By the time my credit-card bill arrives at the end of the month, I can't "feel" the economic difference between a full tank of gas and an extra bottle of Scotch. And I don't plan to give up either.

I am just glad I am 2.2 miles from work, and work only 14 days a month. Thats 61.6 miles a month to work and back home. WOW I get 20mpg, at $4.00 a gallon I spend $12.32 a month on gas.

But I do alot of joy riding and shopping for sale items and stock up big time. That more then makes up for the higher gas prices. You just need to GET SMART and its no big deal.

I also live less than 3 miles from work and work 14 days a month. If things ever get really bad, I can ride my bicycle to work. None of this matters though. I, like most BMW drivers, will fuel up and drive no matter what it cost.

You guys dont know how lucky you are. I drive 21 miles (one way) to work 5 days a week. and sometimes Saturday too.
That's 2 gallons a day to go to work.

I'm adjusting my budget accordingly so I dont feel too many Gas pains.

Hells no. Pedal to the metal. If I were concerned with gas price, I wouldn't have bought a 135i. I would have walked into a Honda dealer and pick myself up a civic hybrid. That said, once the fuel cell technology matured I am first on the list for that.

Hybrids are very expensive and never get the mileage they claim. I will enjoy my 135i gas burner while I can. Soon they will just be memorys like the horse and buggy.

Milk is a good bit cheaper than gas these days around my parts. If the car did run on milk I'd dance a jig.

Gasoline isn't going anywhere too soon, but it's long standing monopoly on personal transportation will soon be over. When gas costs $8 gallon only the die hard car guys will still be using gas cars for daily driving.

Jewel Food store by me has had milk for $2.49 a gallon for the last month, 1 mile away. I paid $4.15 for BP 93 yesterday. But I don't care. An entire month to work and back is only 61.6 miles for me.

Our Prius has a lifetime average (over 32k miles) of 48MPG, and cost $21k. I'm not sure what more you can expect from a well equipped mid-sized sedan. There's nothing with it's interior volume that even comes close to that kind of mileage. :iono:

What does a Prius do ... 0 - 60 ?

If I get 20 mpg avg. in a 135i I'll be happy. The joy of driving it and the extra cost of fuel goes wth the territory. It's always been that way. Even when gas was $1.25 for Premium. Some people like the high mpg cars that are easy on the budget. Some people prefer a fun car that brings a smile to their face every single time they step inside it.

I think my wife uses a modified version of the Roadburn High Gas Price Relief Technique. She does the same thing with facing away from the pump and not looking at the total when she's done, except I'm the one who gets the credit-card bill in the mail...
