I honestly think the exterior is decent.

It’s the interior i have a huge complaint about. It looks so cheap with no trim material on the dash or door panels and the rear passenger door doesn’t even have the ambient lighting.

I really have to see the interior in person, looks very cheap in pictures. Exterior looks fine, especially in black.

Not that I’m exactly thrilled with everything he does, but it’s super easy to criticize

Imagine being a designer and having someone such as yourself criticizing the crap out of you…

2023 X3 M40i loaded except for toe hitch. Brooklyn grey. Almost the perfect car. Love, love, love it. Think I’ll OPEN the large sunroof and grab hold of an actual gearshift as I blast down the road. Run flats are way too expensive! Will change out after they’re worn out.

They teach us in business school - the customer is (almost) always right. Customer has the money to pay for the marked up product, whatever it is. A car or a designer suit. I m not alone in questioning the design language, and I have not felt this strongly for the last 4 BMW generations, it’s not my habit.

I guess you are underestimating the power of numbers. There may be a tipping point where it becomes a head scratcher when sales dip but design never drives big sales numbers.

X3 is a soccer mom /family hauler car, it will sell regardless. Did they not say (in rumors on this very forum) that the new X3 will be a step up in interior materials / luxury and match the X5? All vapor ware looks like.

I think the old gearshift itself is useless, but the fact that BMW got rid of the pano-roof that opens up is an absolute travesty

Like I said, it’s so easy to criticize others… You don’t have to like it.

Business school doesn’t teach a damn thing about car design so let’s get real.

The numbers themselves don’t lie. The X3 sells like hot cakes, and I’m sure this will too

Not sold on the styling but, need to see it in person. I agree with the comments about the quad exhaust and M badges everywhere when this is not a real M car.
This stuff turns me off as a customer who only buys real M cars and the quad exhaust and badging should be exclusive to those cars only.

Doesn’t matter correct, but this is a BMW car forum and it’s worth discussing.

right. i mean this is the “replacement” until the EV version arrives. guess the EV will be an easy fix for the low end torque issue the X3M suffered from lol

It really is new x40i model that should really be x30i and not a “replacement” for x3m. Marketing is trying to muddy the water and confuse consumers to charge them more as per usual business practices.

Fantastic car on its own merits. Considering the thread topic, it's safe to say that everything old is new again.

At this point, I have no doubt that it will sell well regardless

As time goes on, that might change, but for now it’s probably a given
