You know what’s crazy? My car telling me I’m distracted while I’m trying to adjust the A/C. It’s insane. Another example is when I begin hands free DAPP the screen has a warning that I have to tap on. And it’s not just BMW- the new Porsche 911 now will freeze the screen if you change the radio station too many times in rapid succession and make you wait or tap the screen to say you’re the passenger. Someone said it well- we now judge a new car by how quickly we can turn off all the assistants.

I had a chance to see the new X3 yesterday. Visually unless you go for the Msport that gives more depth and breaks up the design with more shapes, the monolithic slab panels of the base model feels a little bit like a smeg fridge. That said, I'm sure some ppl will like the cleaner aesthetic and how different it looks from before, just to set it apart.
One thing I was quite surprised though was the interior and the amount of hard plastics being used compared with previous generation cars. It is really really obvious, so much hard plastics almost everywhere it feels like a big cost cutting exercise. Door handles, ac vents, the touch panel controls for the vents on the doors, the window switches and window switch surrounds, the door cards, the center console, etc... All hard plastics without any soft touch coating or textures. This bit I feel will hurt sales the most. |
