We had a 2024 G01 M40i that we traded in on an 2025 G45 M50i. The wife loves the new interior and the performance is there for me. the exterior took a little getting use to for the change in lines and grill but it grows on you. Hell it's like my corvettes. They change the style and you either like it or not when it comes out, but when you buy one you begin to like it.

honestly we have the same dilemma I don't want to sell my g01 before because I think it has better interior quality and overall design but I will be losing the value of the car if I keep it anyway sooner or later you need to upgrade

Maybe wait to see what, if any, improvements BMW makes to the interior. And allow some time to work out the glitches and gremlins.

Not necessarily. "Upgrade" is subjective and it's only an upgrade to you if you like it better, regardless if newer. The same newer vehicle could be a downgrade to someone else. Different is only different; "better" is completely subjective. For my personal reasons, G01 is an upgrade over G45 for me. Others may feel the opposite, neither is right nor wrong objectively. Also, if you like your new vehicle the same as the old, it's neither upgrade nor downgrade. It's just new.

Im currently in an X5 that I got in 2022. Ive moved to the G45 X3 because I wanted something slightly smaller but still with good boot size and 4 wheel drive. Ive had BMW's since the late 80's and the X5 was my first SUV and kind of a "retirement" present to myself.
Im really looking forward to the X3 which comes in April - Ive read all the comments on the various fora and watched plenty of YouTube reviews and Im really happy with what Im getting. People are all entitled to their own opinions and Ive read that people are put off by trim and the non opening panoramic roof. Well Im glad theres no leather in the car and I never once opened the roof on the X5 - in fact it had to go to the workshop 3 times because it leaked!! I like all the tech in the X3 and for me the less buttons the better. And as has been said - the drive and comfort is what we pay for - I tried a Mazda XC-60 when I was considering my next car this time and it really was chalk and cheese. Loving the forum too, seems like a great place to share thoughts ideas, tips and comment |

Me too, I have placed an order for an X3 PHEV and expect it by the end of March. I couldn't understand your reaction to the Mazda XC-60. Did you like it or not? |

No, BMW, the ridiculous button to turn the iX sunroof glass frosted does not work well enough here!

To me, the G45 seats didn’t feel particularly different to the previous basic Sport Seat, apart from the surface was vinyl/plastic, which felt more grabby to me. On the previous gen M40, plastic seat coverings wasn’t even an option here. AFAIK the G45 drive train is trickle down from what was initially developed for the 7, but to me the choice of interior materials looks and feels cheaper, and comparing component replacement costs, many items cost significantly less, which can’t entirely be attributed to simply economies of scale. |

The interior has divided opinion and yes there are some cheaper materials but agin in my opinion the overall result is a good one and feels well put together. I dare so there will be someone along soon with the exact opposite opinion! Best check it out yourself - that’s the only opinion that matters. |

I can add that I test drove last generations’ x3m40 and being 6’ 210 and broad, felt very confined by the seating and went with an x5. I also liked the smoothness of the 6 cylinder in the x5 over the higher rev m40, it just suited me better for my wants of comfort and luxury with some power…I will say maybe not great on the twisties.
Driving the g45 I was both very comfortable with the front seat space, shoulder / head room, and also enjoyed the engine a lot more than last gens. Seemed to have more quickly available power and just beefier overall, the weight of the car as well. As for luxury, if you just stare ahead at the HU and dual screens while sitting in the upgraded leather seats, the m50 is probably enough to feel luxurious to me. Once you start feeling around the door and the center area that feeling can quickly change. I think the m50 engine is damn compelling personally and given my want for driving dynamics the engine combined with the smaller size probably makes the x3 a good choice. It still feels spacious enough to cruise in as well in this larger size g45 to me. But damn BMW, cheap plastics have the word “cheap” in it because that’s exactly what they are. I also agreed with some reviews that the ambient lighting should have been extended to the rear. Not that I’m a huge fan boy of it, but BMW made it a primary part of the car…it should have been completed for a highly used backseat of an suv. |

The X3/X4 M40i came standard with SensaTec. SensaTec is BMW's brand name for its synthetic leather. It's the standard upholstery material in many models, including the X1, X2, X3, X4, 2-Series, 3-Series, 4-Series, 5-Series, i4, iX, and Z4. Synthetic leather (also called leatherette, faux leather, vegan leather, and vinyl) is made by taking a base layer of fabric and coating it with some form of plastic, like polyurethane or PVC. This coating is then treated to give it a texture and finish that mimics the look and feel of leather. I went with Merino, which wasn't even available in the M40i. Vernasca was the top option in the M40i with Merino being available in the X5/X6. |

Sensatec (BMW marketing word) = plastic vinyl, so less animal but oil based petrochemical instead. The BMW M40 in the UK didn’t have an option for plastic covered seats, just the dash/door caps could have faux plastic leather. Different regions different options, the G01 had options for Merino leather or M Sport Seats in the UK, so again perhaps BMW catering to US market expectations or cost points, and the G45 no longer offers M Sport Seats here. M40i Sensatec is made from plastic just like the base seat in the G45. Please stop trying so hard to poke holes in the G45. We all get it, you don’t like the G45. Time to move on.

I just checked a new X4 at BMW UK and I see ‘plastic’ Sensatec as standard. That implies plastic seats were also available in a UK G01.
Your constant negative posts are absolutely you trying to poke holes. Not sure why you don’t just move on to something you prefer. |
