I don't give a shit if a modded 335i could hang with one. I'd take the RS5 any day.

As htoudiee said, with $2-3K you're into the sub 11's (Z06/Viper territory). You simply CANNOT do this with a Geo, Civic, etc... without spending over double, possibly triple what the car's worth period. The fact that with a few K a "3 series" BMW can keep up with cars like the RS5, Z06, etc....I think pretty much says it all.

Sure the RS5 comes stock with it's specs....but at how much more of a premium? $30K+? I'll take the $50K 335 + $3K in mods anyday, but that's me.
Wrong!

The new V8 Camaro SS with LS3 around $35k will destroy a 335i in terms of performance, platform, and tuning potential. And its $15k cheaper.

LSx motors > N54

Or if a modded civic is modded and then the Civic guy says I can hang with the 335i, and the 335i guy will chip it and then runs away again.
The point is that if you are going to compare cars then compare stock to stock and modded to modded.
Can't really say that a 335i can run with the RS5 because you don't really know what is the engine going to be first off and if it is a FI engine than the RS5 owner could also just tune it and the 335i hanging with the RS5 for cheaper again doesn't apply.
EXACTLY..

I'm surprised by the OP's comments that 'We' have a bigger problem than just the S4 as if we all work for BMW and these rival models will somehow put you out of work and unemployed.

Guys, seriously this is great news for us the consumer because we not only have a possible new champion but will push BMW, Mercedes and any other rival to the RS5 to do better. Frankly if I had a glass of wine in my hand at the moment I would be celebrating right now.

I wish the 3 series had seat choices like that. The one option that is a must for me on a Cayman S is the sport seats. I was really hoping that BMW Performance was going to bring us some great lightweight Recaros for an affordable price.

I understand your point. I remember seeing a really old Caravan (when they were turbo 4 cyl) run 10s or something in the 1/4.

As mentioned, LSx engine, or what about an Evo? Comes stock in the 12's. $2-3k and you are still pushing past 335 with $2-3k.

The 335 is a great car (obviously I think that since I put the money into owning and keeping one), but let's be realistic and acknowledge that sometimes other cars can be better. You can add 'in some categories' if you feel like it.

damn footie...you just keep on getting funnier and funnier!
the only thing about this RS5 worth celebrating are the seats!
This car will be under powered (in comparison to its immediate competition) and severely over priced....not to mention overweight!....

Not only do we have countless thread about the 335i vs M3 but we have ones comparing the 335i to the RS5. I love this place, it will never stop making me laugh.

Well as with those M3 comparison the same problem arises, the 335i might be able to run with the M3 and RS5 in a straight line but the rest of it's package isn't design to be the ultra performance model of the breed and thus will fail else where. In fact this comparison becomes even sillier because we aren't comparing 3series with another 3series.

I don't know what price Audi would reckon it would need to sell it in the US but it will be well shy of the new M5. And if you would much prefer a nodded 335i instead of either this or the M3 then I accept your opinion but I don't happen to agree that such a car is as good or an alternative to either of them.

The R8 is also underpowered, overweight, and overpriced

Strangely it still is an enthusiast favorite

Making that comment before final specs are released = fail lol

Also, they are totally different class of car. I'd rather take the 9k revving RS5 with that interior and bodywork. Those seats alone kick ass.

Something tells me it's going to be overpriced, just like every other Audi.

Looks promising though.

Dont know if saying its an enthusiast choice.....real car enthusiast will choose performance and function over appearance and frills.
