thats weird. im in southern florida and lost to an STi. i have no doubt it was modded...a friend of mine knows the guy supposedly and he has about 450 hp. he had me by about 1.5 - 2 car lengths going from a 45 mph roll. i slowly started gaining on him when we hit about 100 mph....had to back off once we hit 125 though...good thing cus i have a nonsport sedan and the traffic was picking up =P.

I can vouch for stock 335i pulling on an Sti. Got smoked twice when I had my Sti! But, if you KNOW how to launch an AWD from a dig you have an initial advantage. top end though? probably not.
a highly modded (enphasis on highly not ricey) might be a different story.... Sti's and BMW's are night and day though....not even in the same class. As stated before, the Evo is better suited for comparisons

Raced a EVO / that had turboback exhaust, a few other mods... I pulled him 2-3 cars from 35-45 mph roll / into 110-115 the bi-turbo got him. At higher speeds, if the single w/mods winds out... you'll get walked if it modded. From 60-110 he had one car length on me, I was at his bumper. Then again, I got a stock 335. But the cold air and 6MT is fast... I need an ECU upgrade for now And it wouldn't have even been close! in either

how would a stock 335i do against a stock evo. there is still no accurate source to show which one is faster. videos on youtube sometime shows evo > 335 but sometimes 335 > evo. is it a drivers race?

335 is a capable car with a chip and exhaust.
I used to own a built subie and I am sure that a 335 could NOT take it from a dig and probably not at speed either. Then again not all subies are running big FPGreen turbos, with methanol injection, PPG gears, protune, and I could keep going. I know have a slower car now than I used to with my subie. You know what, I don't care! At the track I am sure it is faster and sure looks a lot better. When I owned my Subie, I felt like I needed to beat the shit out of every AMG, BMW, and etc... Now that I have my current ride, I don't have the need to prove shit. In fact I drive much safer now and am glad I dumped the subie. You guys with a 335 should let it go. You have a much nicer car, who cares if it is faster than "X". There are faster cars you know? Why not enjoy what you have, shift over to the slow lane so people can take a second look at your nice car. Peace.

The 335i owners are supposed to defend the honor of our brand. It's all about who has the bigger car, or penis... I'm not sure anymore.

used to have an 06 sti running stage 2.5 with a tune. Intake/header/exhaust all 3" piping. I've walked stock 335i's and an 135i from a roll and dig. Any mods on the 335 and it would be a close race till 130 km/hr, then the v6 would pull away.
In terms of reliability, although it looked ricer from the outside, the STi had heart and extremely well built. I could see modded cars running easily over 200k kms without any issues. Very well built cars. The tranny is good for 600whp. The "tuning issues" were sorted out via dealership reflash. Most people flashed to an aggressive aftermarket tune anyways, and the car runs rock solid. Out of all the cars i've had in the past, the sti had the most personable driving experience. |

Sounds like the guy with the STI, should have picked mods that actually increased his performance instead of enhancing looks. Seriously who gets gauges unless they are stage 2/3

I've seen some pretty quick 335's at the strip... with just chip/tuner, turbo back, fmic and intake, with full interior, expect mid to high 11's... dragtimes.com will back up that statement lol.
On a road course type of track, unless there's huge straightaways, BMW's tower and rule the Evo's and STI's.. just look at laptimes at tracks... you can see a 450-500hp subie running the same times as some 250hp BMW. Overall performance and enjoyment. That's why I have a bmw |

A tune is the best mod you can do to an STi. My 04 STi with a tune on the stock turbo put down 302whp. Added a FP Green turbo, 850cc injectors and retuned to 377whp. It was pretty fast but in no way was it an 11.xx car.
