LOL, I would think the filter wealthiest would be something you may want to stay away from. That would just mean that you'd have a buncha rich assholes in your community. All the events and venues in the area would carter to them. So if you're not "rich" then you're not having fun.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on the person, Dallas is supposedly 2nd only to LA for cosmetic modifications. For me, a single guy I could care less for a few hours.

Most cities in the U.S. have at least 1 nice suburb, if not 20.

Raleigh area wouldn't be a bad choice. Depends on what you want (which you haven't stated). Age, marital status, occupation (if any) would be helpful.

We are a small young family with some cash, interested in healthy living, good climate, open spaces for walks, I like the idea of the east coast.

I have some friends who live in and around Cary they seem to be very happy. It does however apear to be a bit Bohemian. It also came 5th last year, see below:

People come to the Research Triangle area for opportunity. They settle in Cary because they can't believe how pretty the place is. More than 30 parks and greenways dot the region, and regular arts and crafts festivals bring tens of thousands to the downtown area to browse. And, of course, there's plenty of culture in nearby Raleigh. Cary residents don't lack for jobs. Software maker SAS is based here, and about 50% of its 10,000 jobs are in the area. The city also has one of the country's lowest crime rates.

I went to the Ohio State - Texas game last year and found that it wouldn't take someone putting a gun to my head to make me live there. The women are particularly fun and hot. If you can't have fun in that town, you are the problem. Chevelle is gonna be at Stubbs on 10/18 and I'm thinking road trip.

i vote ny. ive lived there for 29 years. moved to west palm beach for 2 1/2 months and it really wasnt to my liking,had a good time and all,but im a new yorker. cant take it out of me no matter what.

It's next to the ocean, minutes away from mountains and a short drive up to the lake. It's only 90min from LA so if you wanted to go into the city, you're not that far. Air quality is great and there are numerous things to do if you like the outdoors. Restaurants are great and the people there are alot friendlier than most. Weather is in between LA and SF. A little warmer than SF but not as hot as LA.

IMHO I want to retire there one day.

once i left San Francisco, i realized what a nice place it was. I've traveled around both coasts before and I do like SF more than any city I've seen so far but Boston is giving it some good competition.

I've lived in most areas of the country at one time or another.

Florida isn't hell, but you can see it from there, Maryland was OK but the Entire North East is so Overcrowded it's comical. San Antonio was nice and the Ladies were friendly and pretty. Colorado is the home state and still a favorite, some of the best Riding in the country hidden away. California is nice, weather is fantastic but boring, people are by and large friendly, but planning your entire life around traffic is fucked. Spent 4 years in Nebraska, fine state, but the Midwest in general gives a new definition of Strip Mall Wasteland and hellish weather. OH OH sorry States, I'd have to say Washington. Full of real people, less plastic folks, less Label Whoring. Friendly women who are real, and have personalities. VERY few of the Moronic Bleached Blonde *Giggle* "look at me" idiots which is very nice. Sure it rains, but the climate is mild year around and we actually get a little tiny bit of snow now and then in the winter. Some great roads, and a healthy housing market and economy. Yippa!

Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Mass, Pennsylvania, Upstate NY, New Jersey are overcrowded? Maybe if you were talking about wildlife you'd have a point. Outside of major cities there is nothing in the Northeast. Just forests dotted with houses. And yeah I know more about it than you because I've lived here my whole life.

I visited an idyllic town a couple years ago, bedroom community of San Francisco. I've never seen as nice a town to raise a family:

In the low mountains, beach not very far (25 miles, beautiful coast), educated populace. Nice restaurants, 'quaint' shops, lots of outdoorsy-types (lots of cyclists, if I recall). Known for a couple wineries. I'll try to find some online photos. Beautiful part of the country.

the bay area in general (then again i'm biased). nice weather, diversity, good food, sf for city life, silicon valley, napa's wine country, nice mountain roads for drives, close to the ocean, and just a short drive away from tahoe for snowboarding.
