My father is originally from the Middle East, and his parents are very traditional and were crushed when he didn't accept the idea of arranged marriages...

... and thus, as their younger grandson (my older brother already told them "NO!" many years ago), they constantly try to get me to accept an arranged marriage.

If it works for ya, then more power to ya, but I'm not into Middle Eastern girls, nor do I want to marry someone "selected" for me.

Just my two cents. Don't have a problem with it, but it's not for me.

^^ This. It's pretty much this in Middle Eastern cultures today. It's not arranged, no one says marry this individual, but they try to match-make. They are, depending on the family, strict as to where you can go with their daughter (curfews, etc), but I guess it's understandable, they are protective and want the honor and reputation of both to be intact.

I honestly don't even care, I've made peace with the idea at this point hahaha I'll still have a LITTLE say in the matter. Whatever, at least that's less work for me! Also, the person before me is correct, it isn't just "Yo, here's your girl. Marry her, have kids, live happily ever after.". It's a process where they try to make the best match possible, all while I go about my life trying to make money instead of worrying about a distraction like this! :P I can also have as many pointless, purely physical relationships as I want without the danger of commitment. "Sorry babe, parents are pulling the plug. Catch you later!" And if that makes me a douchebag, then whatever. LOL

They spoil the shit out of us until we feel bad refusing them. There isn't always a traditional dowry, but they usually give a gift. (Guys family pays for the wedding) I've seen everything from a simple Rolex to an S550 as a gift. I can't confirm because I wasn't there, but apparently some guy got a Gallardo for his "gift". The girls dad owns like 50 practices haha

I think it is hilarious hearing all these people that are getting an arranged marriage saying it is something they now dont have to worry about trying to do. It has been taken off of your proverbial "work" plate and delegated to your parents... Are you effffin kidding me??? that is all part of the fun in growing up and learning how to manipulate things and getting through life. Honestly, I think it works great. Plenty of time for FWB type of relationships. You never have to worry about commitment. You're way better at picking up girls because you simply don't give a damn! Some guys go out with the mindset that they can only date girls they see themselves marrying, which makes them extremely picky and they end up inhibiting themselves. That's just what I see from my perspective. And if I end up getting a Gallardo as part of the "dowry", then that's even better!

They call generally once or twice a month to present the idea of different girls they know. They try to guilt trip me, saying I don't know what's right for me and they obviously do, having a lot more experience in the world, etc.
