I'll reserve judgement for now. I just hope BMW doesn't taint their reputation with a flop. Toyotas these days are not very impressive. The FR-S is a nice attempt to get back to the days of the Supra and Celica…but it took a Subaru engine to do it.

Try driving one with that kind of power. I have. It isn't fun in the slightest. Once you break the 200whp barrier they start having a lot of problems keeping traction. It's not the motor that is the problem. But then again, it wasn't made to be a fast car in the first place. It was meant to lose that back end and be a blast to drive at reasonable speed. |

Toyota's are ok but generally dull as ditchwater. Why on earth do something like this ? Sounds like a recipe for disaster although I agree the latest Toyota coupe is a great little car. Makes me feel deeply uneasy to be honest...

I've owned 2 Toyotas, a Land Cruiser in the 90s and a Tacoma now, and my wife has owned several Lexus ES, RX, and GX. None of them have been fun to drive or otherwise exciting, while the two X5s and e92 335i definitely were/are. That being said, the Toyotas are much more reliable, and all of them together spent less time in the shop than the damn 335i with its fuel pumps, engine mounts, computer glitches, etc. If I didn't enjoy driving the BMWs so much, along with their looks and features, I wouldn't put up with them. And unlike the Toyotas, I won't own one after the warranty expires!
BMW can learn as much from Toyota as vice-versa. |

Well, don't count on that happening as Ferrari is owned by Fiat.

This is mostly conjecture, but this partnership is most likely all about the fuel cell/hybrid development. If the sports car actually does come to fruition (I thought the agreement was just to discuss the project?), it would also likely only share hybrid/fuel-cell/whatever power plant.
The bigger disappointment for me is that BMW (and Toyota for that matter) are not going back to F1. With the new rule changes coming next year, it would have been a great place to develop their turbo and hybrid tech. As far as the BRZ/FRS goes.. I thought they intentionally balanced the car and made the wheels thin so they would be fun to drive? Which, according to most reviewers, they are indeed that. |

Remember that if not Toyota, BMW would never think about building any type of sportscar. They would continue building "Premium-Toyota" like the 225i Active Tourer.

The leadership at BMW and Toyota aren't stupid. I work for a subsidiary of Toyota (we make 90% of their electronics)...this is good news. Toyota know what it does well (quality) and so does BMW (driving experience). It is completely possible that BMW did this to improve quality Of their cars as they seeing as how their cars are becoming very technologically advanced and electronics-based (and Japanese have the best electronics). Toyota is doing the same as they know their cars are very vanilla and boring ( heck a lot of our top brass drive BMWs)
