It doesn't help that their entire EQ lineup has been a total dud. Ugly too.

Ramcharger is going to totally spend the EV market IMO. It's the gray space between an EV and a PHEV, with an electric powertrain to take advantage of the efficiency and cost benefits there, a battery pack that's more modest than it's competitive pure BEVs, and a gas generator for effectively infinite range. That's the type of powertrain that the automakers should be working on with all their resources.

So if there's already a huge shortage of charging stations what will happen when the masses all have EV's??

I have 2 240V EV chargers in my home for my PHEV and BEV. Most EV owners do now. So charging at home before a storm is as simple as plugging in. Not running to the gas station and hoping it hasn’t run out.

If I’m without power I can use my full charge to drive to a hotel or other location with power.

Also, fun fact. If the power is out at a gas station it also can’t pump gas. Since you can’t figure out if a gas station is “working” or “has fuel” before you get to it you might be on foot carrying a gas can hoping to get lucky. Like people were during Sandy.

California EV sales see first decline in a decade
February 16, 2024
The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday that Tesla sales fell significantly in the back half of 2023, declining by 10% in the final quarter alone. This sales drop came despite California’s previous pledge to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in the state by 2035.
According to the California New Car Dealers Association, sales of electric vehicles initially rose by 48% in the first half of 2023. However, sales dropped by 2,840 in the third quarter compared to the second at only 100,151. The number then plummeted another 10.2% to only 89,933 in the fourth quarter.

EVs won over early adopters, but mainstream buyers aren't along for the ride yet
February 7, 2024
Sales leveled off at around 9% of the new car market, and even dipped down at the start of the year.
Then it reaches the "early adopters" — people who like to buy gadgets and aren't afraid of trying something new. Early adopters will put up with some inconveniences — like, say, finding public chargers for a new kind of car — and they'll pay a little extra for cool tech.
Mainstream buyers, however, are harder to win over.
But most EVs sold — 78%, according to JD Power — are still in the premium segment. Truly affordable EVs are few and far between.

Major US city to ban new gas stations in drastic turn towards EVs - and locals are furious
02/16/2024
Sacramento has proposed a ban on building new or upgrading existing fossil fuel infrastructure at existing gas stations unless contractors meet one condition.
As part of the city's recently issued 2040 General Plan, service providers wouldn't be able to construct or upgrade fuel stations unless the locations supply 50kW or greater direct current fast charger electric vehicle charging at a ratio of one charging station per gas nozzle.
Under the plan, Sacramento would also deny existing fuel stations permitting if they don't contain the outlined direct current fast charger (DCFC) electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, InsideEVs reports.

Common lithium-ion batteries cause devastating fires, committee witnesses warn
02/16/2024
WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology held a hearing Thursday on the fire threats posed by lithium-ion batteries.
Three main focal points that lawmakers stressed were black markets, resources for first responders and poor regulation.
U.S. Fire Administrator Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell listed off common items such as phones, computers, e-bikes, e-scooters and electric vehicles as devices that use lithium-ion batteries that could be at risk.
Dr. Moore-Merrell responded by saying, “The U.S. does get most of its lithium-ion batteries from China, South Korea and Japan but there’s a huge unregulated market within the U.S. that poses a challenge to regulators.”
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) said that the legislation he introduced to the House would seek to help prevent the more than 600 fires that have occurred in the last five years in New York City due to lithium-ion batteries.
VP and Executive Director at the Fire Safety Research Institute Stephen Kerber explained that legislation would make safety standards mandatory, not voluntary like they are currently.

Chinese EV makers were always going to go bankrupt in large numbers. There is a surfeit of manufacturers and there is industry consolidation. Add to that the implosion of the Chinese stock market and overall softening of consumer demand across the board, four quarters of deflation and the Evergrande and Countrywide bankruptcies you will see major carnage in all things Chinese for the near term.

My 530e is charged at home regularly and I average over 60MPG in the car. Even on long road trips I easily exceed 40MPG in the car.

Fantastic car. I put gas in the car for like $15 once a month.

People queue in line for Costco gas for longer than it takes to charge a BMW i5 at a DC fast charger...

I put $80 of gas into my ICE and the gas only last for half a day track racing. However I enjoy every penny of the gas too. It only take me 5 mins to fill up and have fun again since gas stations are everywhere.

So, my friend works for a company in Los Angeles. They have charging stations for employees to charge for free during the day. That is really cool. Except if all 30 stations are full during your work shift you only get 25% charge. Not enough to get home in LA traffic(he lives in San Diego). So he bought a Porsche ICE instead.

The crazy part is...less than 1% of registered vehicles in US are pure EV and the infrastructure is already strained.

Only happen in my dream. I travel around the west coast during the summer months and race at different tracks. So far only one place has one EV charging station. It is definitely not the super charger. I guess it expand how popular is EV
