Aptera Motors Reveals Electric Vehicle with Record-Breaking 994-Mile Range on Single Charge
02/20/24 This futuristic-looking vehicle was created by U.S. electric vehicle startup Aptera Motors. It features three wheels and sky-opening butterfly doors. While the car isn’t particularly large, it comfortably seats two people. If you choose the optional camping tent, you can even use the vehicle for car camping. Yet to Pass the Crash Test Thanks to its lightweight design, this EV also boasts excellent acceleration. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and its top speed is 112 mph (180 km/h). However, there are still challenges to overcome. The three-wheel vehicle body has not yet passed crash safety tests. To proceed to actual mass production, it must pass these tests. Aptera is a new company founded in 2019 and headquartered in California, USA. The vehicle can currently be reserved for $33,200 on the website, and it is said that more than 40,000 reservations have already been made. Aptera also secured $33 million in funding to begin early production. It of course has the obligatory stupid Jetsons steering wheel. I like the pedals, I guess EV'ers need all the help they can get. https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news...21f953a7&ei=10 A fool and his money are soon parted. Thomas Tusser |

Tesla ends up underwater a boat launch ramp and is on fire and continues to burn underwater. That's not something you see everyday. Outstanding.

Outraged EV driver calls out person who vandalized charging station: ‘That is just unacceptable’
February 20, 2024 The cable connecting to the part that attaches to the car was gone. The video was captioned, “Some ignorant person that refuses to adopt technology vandalized this EV charger!” Another issue? Thieves stealing the cables for their valuable copper, and this is where the divide fell between the commenters. Olivera responded: “This is a known issue that people are doing to inconvenience and slow down the EV revolution! Like people parking non-EV in the EV charging stalls.” Another person commented: “Nah. It’s because they can sell copper.” Olivera was willing to give in a little, saying, “It is possible but it’s a 50/50 either way.” https://www.thecooldown.com/green-bu...tation-charge/ Any questions on the nature of many EV owners? |

As Cyberattacks Ramp Up, Electric Vehicles Are Vulnerable
Feb 19, 2024 As we enter the age of the software-defined automobile, especially those with electric drivetrains, we’re facing unprecedented risk from cyberattacks, say a wide coterie of experts. According to the Israel-based Upstream firm, from 2019 to 2023 disclosed cybersecurity incidents in the automotive and mobility space increased by more than 50%, with 295 such occurrences in 2023. “The smarter a vehicle, the more vulnerable it is,” she said. “A single incident could cause a lot of damage to an OEM. Over-the-air updates could fix the vulnerability, but that would cost millions, too. For EVs, the connected charging network is a target. Last year, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) prepared a draft guidance that called on companies deploying fast chargers to secure their digital payment systems. The government’s report said that in 2023, the US had more than 48,000 public charging stations, and they “connect and communicate with cloud providers and third-party vendors for EVSE location information, billing and other services.” As WardsAuto reported, in 2022 the charging network on the Isle of Wight in the UK was penetrated to the extent that the chargers’ screens displayed pornography. And in 2021, Ukrainian hackers broke into Russia’s biggest EV charging network and claimed to have stolen 900 gigabytes of data from it. https://www.autoweek.com/news/a46857...-and-chargers/ Seriously doubt this is limited to EV's. |

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.
US to soften tailpipe rules, slow EV transition through 2030 February 20, 2024 Automakers and the United Auto Workers had urged the Bozo administration to slow the proposed ramp-up in EV sales. They say EV technology is still too costly for many mainstream U.S. consumers and that more time is needed to develop the charging infrastructure. The Environmental Protection Agency in April 2023 proposed requiring a 56% reduction in new vehicle emissions by 2032. Under the initial EPA proposal covering 2027-2032, automakers were expected to aim for EVs to constitute 60% of their new vehicle production by 2030 and 67% by 2032 to meet stricter emissions requirements. White House climate adviser Ali Zaidi, who has held talks with automakers on tailpipe rules, said in a statement Sunday the United States is "harnessing the power of smart investments (ESG) and standards to ensure U.S. workers will lead, not follow, the global auto sector." The EPA is also expected to address other concerns raised by automakers including a proposal to drastically reduce particulate matter from gas-powered vehicles, which the industry has argued would effectively require gasoline particulate filters on every gas-powered vehicle. https://www.reuters.com/business/aut...es-2024-02-18/ Translation: It's election year and we need to stay in power and as soon as we win, we will replace our boot on the throats of the auto companies and force our EV dreams on everyone. |

The rights of the EV vs the rights of the citizens? Who will win in LA?
How hard should L.A. go after copper wire thieves? Council members hold a lively debate Feb. 17, 2024 The anecdote was shared at the end of a nearly one-hour debate Wednesday — in which more than half of the City Council spoke — over whether to approve motions by Councilmembers Kevin de León and Traci Park to curb copper wire theft. Beyond wire theft, the invigorating conversation illuminated the council members’ differing approaches to crime, with some wishing for more preventive efforts and others pushing for accountability. Los Angeles, CA - July 27: The new 6th Street Bridge has been closed intermittently since opening due to street racing and other illegal activity on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in Los Angeles, CA. (Brian van der Brug / Los Angeles Times) In late December, thieves stole a third of the 6th Street Viduct’s copper wires. De León, whose district includes the structure, said the individuals could receive a “street value” of $11,000 for the stolen material. But repairs will cost taxpayers $2.5 million. https://www.latimes.com/california/s...e-theft-debate |
