I could be wrong (it happens more than often than i want it to) but i think JTodd was saying that as a society, we do a reasonable job of keeping guns, weed, pills, alcohol, etc... out of the hands of the youngsters. Where as the measures taken by society to keep porn out of kids hands is pretty much just the honor system. (click here to verify you're over 18) Parents can do much more to keep inappropriate materials away from the eyes of their children but it typically involves more of a self sacrifice than many parents are willing to give up.

One thing is undeniable, the bolded part of you post is paramount in raising well adjusted children who have a chance to become contributing members of society.

You are not wrong (THIS TIME).

Truth. The real key is communication. You will never keep everything harmful away from your children. If you are open and honest and don't come off like the Reefer Madness movie (google it youngsters), then your kids have a huge headstart on how to deal with the inevitable dangers that cross their paths. I would absolutely agree with Biorin that porn is not, in and of itself, a societal ill. Like many other things, it is the abuse of it that is. Societally, the problem is that people are not taught about appropriate v. inappropriate because for SOME REASON we still cling to puritanical beliefs that if you don't talk about sex, then your kids won't do it. (same for drugs, booze, whatever...). Why are old people so dumb... wait wut?
