Saw the next gen iDrive to debut in the iX from CES. Seems like the iX will have it.

Any perspective on when the next gen of iDrive will get launched.

Check out the i4 dual screen set up for the next gen iDrive. Wondering if the G26 and MY 22 G20 will feature these updates?

Based on the BMWblog post, yes they got the 48v system for 2020:
https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/04/01/s...ies-x3-and-x4/

I was curious if the next gen I-Drive for CES would hit the G01 LCI, but I'm guessing no since it just moved to I-Drive 7

I would be willing to bet that LCI will upgrade the X3 from iDrive 7 "lite" to the full version which will enable driver assist pro, remote start, and digital key (amongst other things). I can't imagine BMW leaving those options off their highest volume model for much longer.

That article is referring to diesel engines, not the B58.

Speaking of 48V, any signs of that for the B48 yet? IIRC, in the four cylinder family, only the B47 diesel has been updated with 48V to date.
48V will be paired with the same engines it's used today on G2x, so no news there either.

In Italian market (but it seems also in other ones) starting from March 2021 will be available new model PHEV for 3 and 5 series: 320e and 520e born in sedan and touring version.
2.0 liter petrol engine with 163hp plus electric motor with a total combined power of 204hp

Thanks for sharing that news.

Those had been reported on in the past but their original release dates came and went. Since they are not being sold in the US, they don't tend to stay on the radar. It's possible the pandemic contributed to their delay. Either way, it's good to know they are finally set to hit the market.

Now I wonder whether a X3 20e is going to happen as well? I don't think anybody has heard of it? But seeing how the 320e is very close to the 330e from a technical PoV (trunk space hasn't changed, so battery size/placement seems identical as is the electrical motor, just the B48 got detuned), it'd be easy to do for the X3 as well.

Speaking of PHEV is there any possibility for a bigger capacity battery in the 330e anytime soon?

"BMW i4 is not going to be built from the ground up as a BEV. Instead, it will be one of the versions of G26, similar to the recently introduced iX3, though hopefully with better performance. "

Shocking

Just noticed there is nothing noted in the list for G05 LCI. Will there not be an LCI for the G05?

I'm a bit confused by the iX M, is that the M version of the iX, or some i version of the XM aka X8M? I assume the former, but it's not totally clear.

It will probably be called iX M50

The space between the X and M are important here since this is definitely some type of performance iX model. There will be no electric XM, and hence no "iXM" (without the space ).

Should this be still considered as a fact? In my opinion it's very hard to tell from the spy photos. But BMWBLOG mentioned a "fact" last December that G26 will not be a hatchback:

"This new car, though, ditches that tailgate for a conventional trunk, just like the 3 Series, as you can see from these photos. The trunk lid shut lines lie only on the deck of the trunk and don’t extend into the C-pillars, as they would with a tailgate."

https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/12/22/b...upe-spy-shots/

So what is the opinion of the community for this and does ynguldyn have any evidence of the hatchback style for G26?

BMW officially said in January that the official reveal of i4 will happen in a few months, so it would mean that we should see G26 final photos around March. I would say early March, because F36 GC was revealed in March 2014 in the very same Geneva Motor Show, which traditionally opened early March. Of course this year the show will not be kept, but the schedule should remain for the G26 reveal, as one year ago the reveal was indeed aimed to happen in 2021 Geneva Motor Show.

Yes, it's unlikely to be a proper M, but I don't know what digits will follow the "M".

TBH I can't even remember now how I made that conclusion. So I wouldn't trust myself with that.

What about the new G42 2 Series Coupe that starts production in July? Won’t it also have a completely new gauge cluster layout and design? It certainly looks from the spy pics that it will, along with a new iDrive screen layout.

As always, thank you for sharing information with us. Do you happen to have the most up-to-date and recent models order codes for the US for the 2021 vehicles?
