Won't matter. All you need is one dumbass and the jury is hung. And there's plenty of those in Cali.

A jury isn't 12 of your peers, but rather a dozen people who were all too dumb to get out of jury duty.....

There is an age-related corollary, I believe.

I really enjoyed three months of GRAND Jury duty a few years ago, and most of my co-jurors were upset when our term ended. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if ever called again.....

Me too. Although it’s a pain in the ass, I do enjoy the process. Last time I served, I turned the jury around in a civil case.

Having said that I was none too pleased to learn it was going to be a 6 week trial and every day was an hour each way drive through the worst part of traffic in Phoenix. So I confess when they determined I might not be open minded and released me I was happy. Note - I did not and would not lie on the voir dire. I think there were two questions that probably got me booted and I can't lie on them. One was "Do you think all gang members are criminals - and why"? I answered yes and because that is the point of a criminal gang. The second question was "Do you own guns, how many and what kind"? I said yes, not sure how many, and shotguns, handguns, assault rifles and machine guns. I don't think either side wanted anything to do with me. |

In these parts, the judges are the issuing authorities for all pistol permits. They probably already know at least half of the answer from your CCW's list of pistols.....

In Arizona no one has a list of what firearms I own. There are none registered. However, the fully automatic weapons and suppressors are all NFA registered and the feds already know I have a few (ahem) weapons in my house.

I’m moving to Nevada in the next 45-60 days, but I will still work in California as deputy; it’s not worth it to leave my department at this point. I will commute the 3-ish hours in Wednesday mornings and drive home Saturday nights; staying with family or at the station during my four day work week. I cannot wait to get out of here, especially with the looming bill designed to tax people fleeing the state; penalizing residents for fleeing the problems politicians [and wayward voters] created. I will already be gone before that potentially goes into effect.

Thanks brother! I appreciate that. It sucks to have to make the hard decision to leave this state. There’s so much to offer here geographically, but it is run so poorly that it isn’t worth staying here anymore.

Edit: In the following post I incorrectly mentioned Arizona instead of Nevada. I've removed the part about income tax impact. All the best to you. It sounds like a long work week for you but you need to go, go for it! Regarding your comment about the looming bill to tax people leaving California: If you are referring to AB2088, I don't think you need to worry. They are proposing this new wealth and exit tax on individuals with incomes over $30 million per year. So, while this proposed bill is crazy, it does not affect us normal people at all. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes. Last edited by sygazelle; 06-19-2023 at 05:29 PM.. |

It was not my intention to derail this great thread into a political discussion about California. My comment was simply to point out that one of the reasons that sedan_clan pointed out has nothing to do with those of us who make less than $30 million. Personally, I'm not at all worried about AB 2088 being a stepping stone to put an exit tax on normal taxpayers and I wouldn't make a life-changing decision such as moving out of the state based solely on worrying that it could happen someday in the future. Sedan_clan has multiple valid reasons for deciding to move to Arizona. I'm just saying that AB 2088 should probably not be a key reason because it only affects the super rich.

Not as big of an idiot as me, who left his Las Vegas hotel to drive across the California border without his road atlas and wound up in Arizona instead.....
